I cranked my 05 up and heard a loud clack, clack, clack! Almost like something was caught in the fan, but there wasn’t anything there. It didn’t last long, it went away as the oil pressure rose to the normal range. My son said it blew out some dark smoke, but not necessarily black. By the time I went to pop the hood the sound was gone??? The weather that past week had gotten down in the lower 30’s and upper 20’s a few days while it was sitting.

I drove it like normal and it was quiet with no unusual sounds. I wonder what was that? Any ideas?

I wonder if the timing belt tensioner bled down and you heard the loose belt slapping it around as the oil pressure came up.

It could just be the lifters were low in oil as you said the sound went away when the oil pressure came up .

Let's not distribute fake news here. The 4.7 does not have hydraulic lifters, it uses cam buckets. Different technology.
