Saturday, I wanted to do the TB coolant bypass. So I pulled the airbox lid and intake tube. I found a small wall of varnish on the TB that required significantly more work than expected and replaced the air filter because it was literally dropping dirt/dust/sadness out of it as I held it.
Whenever my truck re-establishes idle, I'm expecting it to be much happier. (It's been idling pretty high, but is slowly working its way back down.)

That's fine. PM me your address and I'll work on getting it shipped this week. The wiring might be slightly different on your 06 but I'm not positive.

 

It was wicked easy. There are coolant lines running into a small block on the bottom of the TB. I simply unplugged the hoses from the block, shortened one (optional), and connected them with a small barbed hose union. Ten minutes of work max...Thirty if you pull the air intake tube.

I'm 100% certain the varnish I found in my TB would have just been oily residue were the TB not heated to cooling system temp. It just baked that crap into tar and then into resin. It was tough.

Not a union thing, it’s state work. They have very little responsibility, but also very little pay. “General maint. Mechanic” is their job title

I got a magnetic front diff drain plug for a Tacoma from my buddy at trailtoys
I haven't installed it yet but I think it will work.

 

I've been off the grid recently but have been putting more work into my truck to get it looking how I want it! Last week I painted my front bumper and new grill surround. The grill is the EAG grill and I epoxied the TOYOTA logo to the mesh. I also painted the front bumper and grill surround with Rustoleum Bed Liner aerosol cans. Finally I plasti dipped my emblems. I really love how everything came together and love the refreshed look of the front!

 

Looking good. I keep seeing these grill lines on 3rd gen tacos. Where'd ya get em?

 

Finally restored my flaking window trim! (And yes I know I need a comprehensive paint job, Monstaliner is in the future.) I didn't want to pay the big bucks for new pieces from the dealership, so I did all the work myself.


Most of the old paint came off with a box cutter, the rest required a rotary tool. Took lots of hand-sanding to get everything smooth. I had to bondo a few spots, too.

Just took my time with the painting, starting off with an adhesion promoter, followed by a satin black, and finished off with a gloss clear coat. Overall, this was one of the most satisfying mods in my restoration. Super noticeable and worthwhile.

Moving forward (or backwards) with my sound overhaul and tackling the rear speakers, it looks like they've already been upgraded by the previous owner---it's a wack job and I'd like to sell them. I don't want to get a subwoofer, is it possible to achieve more bass specifically with mid bass speakers? In other words, two tiny subs in the rear. Not sure if anyone's done it that way, simply an

As a guy who just fell off a 6' ladder I resent that! Seriously I just fell off a ladder for the first time and almost landed on the top of the stairs. Luckily my back decided to catch the corner of the wall enough to stop me. With all the dumb stuff I've done... I need to stay in the shop and just light things on fire like normal.


I just installed the converter temp to my torque app today. Works good and is reading a little different than the pan temp I was running before. You can see it jump up after I get on it and then it slowly comes back down to pan temp.

Before you said you had a bunch of add-a-leafs just laying around you were going to use. You decided to order new ones? You should have at least gone with Wheelers man.

 

I got the 3 leaf set for 140 through someone I know. The taco leafs were going to happen but for 140 the icons should be superior.

Judging by what I've seen here I'm skeptical you'll get any meaningful amount of lift but the truck should ride a little better.

 

Got the gauges all setup. Bought an old Note 4 (I’m an Apple guy) to use as a dedicated monitor. Really only used it a few times last summer when pulling my buddies TT but now I added both trans temp and a GPS speed gauge so that will be nice since my tires are oversized

 

Man, I haven't been on here in awhile! I just got promoted at work so I haven't had free time with school and trainings on top of that. The wife and I went to disneyland for our honeymoon and i kept seeing some sweet rigs and thought it was time i get back on. I parked next to this guy last week and it made me think how far my truck has come from stock.

 

How'd you do the silver on your toyota emblem on the grille? Painted mine all black, but love the silver of the emblem!

I actually did the same with my emblem on the grill. I just masked off the emblem before I painted it black and then it stayed the original color. I had it blacked out before, but I think it looks better keeping the emblem silver to contrast against the black.

 

Anybody know of any transmission coolers that allow for engine coolant to be hooked up also? I don't like worrying about the pink milkshake and I was really hoping to find an inline cooler that flows coolant and trans fluid on parallel surfaces to give you the fluid to fluid cooling and the warming of the trans fluid.

So far I'm finding two answer.. 1- just buy a new radiator and hope. Or 2-build something.
