First Toyota for me after domestics for 30 years. Limited with every option but the cooled seats. I don't need more options. Push button start and the auto off gas saver feature have caused more frustration than favor out here. Buddies 2018 F150 Eco is nice but like all trucks it has its issues already. I've own my share of tahoes. Front end issues, motor mounts, electronics and relay issues, fuel pumps etc. Ford has proven to eat its share of CPS, MAF, etc.
Reliability has a cost. The cost is the latest must have gizmo. Million mile Tundra and it used two timing chains. An alternator and a water pump and that's it? Say no more.

I have bought more than 20 new cars in the last 30 years and the most important feature is RELIABILITY. Second is RESALE. I don't have time to take my car in for an oil change much less for things that break. Most of the usable features are available already in higher trims anything else is just fluff. Ninety percent of the time I'm just driving down the road maybe listening to the radio. The other truck makers have to keep coming up with features so people will buy the truck. Look at at how many times they change the style of their truck. Again that is so people buy a new one. I traded a 2012 4runner and got over 75% of my original price. Do that with a Ford or Chevy. I looked at both of them, drove the Chevy and at the end of the day I felt I couldn't trust them. Some people have good experiences and others nightmares. Pretty trucks and great commercials but I will stay with Tundra.

It took me a few tries to park the Tundra in front of a coffee shop last week (tight spot).
I walked in and one of the two gentlemen sitting down said “your trucks too damn big” I laughed because I could tell he was joking. His next line was -
“I’m just kidding ya, that’s one badass truck!” “The Tundra is hands down the best damn truck on the road right now!”

He was not quiet about it at all. LOL

That happened exactly zero times in the 1-Ton Duramax Sierra I drove prior for 5 years set-up similar (lift/tires/wheels).

(And I’ve only been driving the Tundra for a few months)

Turning the key feels old school when you’ve been pushing a start button for years, but knowing I could drive to the East coast from the West Coast and not worry about one damn thing - beats any creature comfort out there.
I don’t have the time right now at this point in my life to deal with truck problems. Time is everything to me.
Having a fuel pump issue on some Ford when I’m on vacation next week with my family is just not a risk I want to take.
That’s why Tundras owners think they’re the best. And they look better than everything else.
The new Chevy has a front bumper that’s damn near in the weeds. Chevy 9” ground clearance vs 11” Tundra?
Chevy has the clearance of a GD Minivan:D

I drive a Chevy and Ford full size truck around the plant for work. I think our newest is about 5 years old. Both trucks feel like a they are 100 years old. Biggest POS's and they only have about 25,000 miles on them for just staying in the plant. JUNK!!!

I bought this truck and could only take it for a year before I traded it back in and took a huge loss because they have crap resale because they are crap.

It shook down the highway going between 70-80mph. Some of the interior buttons NEVER EVEN WORKED from day one.

I run my own service company and every trip to the dealer meant loading all of my equipment back into my 100k+ mile TUNDRA so it could keep working for me while the dealer continued to fail at fixing my BRAND NEW TRUCK.

Stepping away from toyota trying to be practical (mpg) ended up being one of the worst financial deductions of my life.

Thank goodness I was able to roll the $4k dollars of negative equity back into a real truck.
    5A8D7B9C-B816-4335-BBB5-223B5FA7FAE6.jpg

I had a duramax Chevy as well for 5 years it had electrical issues (went into limp mode when you would ROLL DOWN THE WINDOW. It also ate 2 of the ‘bulletproof’ Allison transmissions. Thank goodness I was able to clear the codes as the 2nd tranny was failing and got car max to give me wayyyy to much money for that pile...

Nothing but Toyota for me from now on sorry for the rant.

The ol’ 1/2 ton Chevy shake. Lol!!
I can’t believe there hasn’t been a fix to this yet. I guess it’s kinda like the cam tower leaks on Tundras. Cheaper to just fix or piss off owners instead of solving the problem.

Was your duramax chipped? I’m not sure what you were doing with your truck, but I have way too many friends that have 200k+ Allison 1000 transmissions, and even some over 500k miles that haul RVs for a living (he actually has 750k miles on the truck now). Some people think the Allison 1000 is bullet proof, and those people are morons. If you tune a diesel, better build the drivetrain, starting with a torque converter. I know a few that don’t use tow haul mode until over 6k, and they have issues. Some people think all you have to do is spin on a new filter every 50k miles and top off/or use the wrong fluid. Sadly they’re wrong. The Allison has been around since the 70’s and went into commercial use in the 80’s, and still used today.

I did have a chip on the first tranny but I ran it in Freaking economy mode(this was when diesel was ridiculously priced) and I have driven like an old man since my early twenties, so I definitely was not ‘romping’ on this truck. Second tranny I said no tune whatsoever, still drove very easy (I was paranoid at this point) and had the same exact problem(gear would slip and go into limp mode if I accelerated on the highway and made it downshift out of overdrive). I never even towed anything significant. I was really mad about the problems with that truck because I wanted to keep it forever but only got to 180k miles in 5 years...

And yea the stupid Chevy shake, of course I didn’t find out about it until after my purchase. You live and you learn.

I honestly think Chevy, dodge, ford trucks are fine for the most part, I just have personally had bad experiences with everything but my Toyota’s, and my old Nissan drift car...

Chevy shake is crazy, that's how I ended up with a tundra. I was shopping for a 1500 Silverado And i could not find one that had 3.42's And didn't shake going down the highway.

Depending on what tune you had, that’s still a 60 hp increase on the eco tune.

Sounds like you had a reoccurring issue that really limited the life of your transmissions.

3000 miles a month is being pretty busy.

On vacation this week with the family. The only vehicle the rental place had that would fit all of our gear plus the family was a Chevy Silverado crew cab 1500. Makes me appreciate my Tundra. This thing is a dog in comparison. And.....I call it the paint mixer. Holy cow does it shake at highway speeds. Brand new truck. Not impressed at all.

From what I read when I was looking at one is the shaking in inherent to that platform and no way to solve it. You can reduce it but its always there to some degree, it has to do with the way frequencies resonate through the chassis or something like that. curious to see if Chevy solved the issue on the new 2019 Silvy.

I fight this battle everyday with my brother in law. he is a die hard chevy guy, and I am a Toyota guy. Luckily we can keep it all in good fun for the most part as we are adults. He does have the 6.2 L which gives him the advantage in power, however, he also has it at stock height so he drags his bumper all over town. Overall it is a nice truck and he has not had any major problems with it so far.

I choose the tundra mostly because I had a Tacoma before that never failed me and Supra before that which was my first car. I choose the tundra due to reliability and the massive backseat for hauling 4 adults comfortably to the mountains for ski-trips ect. and also because lets face it I am clearly a brand whore.

The battle of who is best will never be won cause everyone likes what they like. Get in your digs on your brother in law when his truck needs fixing, and lie to him about when yours does, then breakdown later when you need his help cause he is a heavy duty mechanic. On that note, I think with some JBA headers and @dirtydeeds exhaust I can get my HP numbers up over his 6.2 L....

I wonder when they calculate reliability do they take into consideration that Chevy sells around 600k Silverado’s and Toyota only sells around 100k?

Probably not, they always tout vehicles still on the road after x amount of time or miles so that would make sense

It doesn't matter what chevy sells, they can't get their lights right. What I mean is when your riding down the highway and see a burned out running light or headlight, 90% of the time it's a chevy. This is newer models. Just the other day I saw a vette with it's running led out. Pathetic if you ask me  Just my .02
