Phoenix head end unit?

I quickly skimmed the forum and saw a lot of posts about Pioneer head end replacements and a few other manufacturers, but didn't see anything about one that intrigues me.

Has anyone put one of these in and/or have any kind of feedback on them? I love the look...

My brother-in-law has one in his 2015 1794 CM.

That's thing is pretty nice. There are settings you have to make based on what truck you have
but its basically a plug and play unit.

This FB page is specifically for those units. They will be able to answer prolly every question you have.

 

If your not tech savvy pass this up. It HATED my JBL system . I sent it back. I wanted Sooooooo bad for it to work right and sound good. I was VERY disappointed even after loading custom FW on it. thats my .o2

 

They are not a typical android unit for sure, actually quite the opposite. Large tablet running Android with a ton of settings.

My BIL got his a while back and hasn't had any issues with his. He is also running Sergey's update and that made things
run smoother, according to him.

Other than locating 1 settings after installing aftermarket amp, sub and door speakers, its back to running like it should.

 

I've had the first gen and now have the second gen, they are pretty much plug and play and the sound improvement over the stock JBL is awesome with only stock speakers. It helps to unlimited tethering from phone or hotspot dongle, and you can also mirror you phone if needed. I also added a single sub from Tech12 that was also a big improvement over stock.

Are these units mainly for android users?

 

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe they will work with iOS phones as well, at least for Bluetooth audio...

 

I had a px6 and loved it for the first week. Note. The first week. I started having little issues, apps opening without prompt, heater turning on to hades setting at full fan, also taking almost 10 minutes for the car play to connect. Finally, after updating all my door speakers to some nice focal components and adding a kenwood xcelon shallow mount 12 the sound was what I wanted ish. I started the truck to thaw my windshield and went in the house to grab some rock salt inside the front door. The stereo then raised the volume all the way to 40, I ran out and turned off the ignition. Too late. I blew every single one of those speakers. After this every time I'd start the truck it would default to 40 for the volume, no matter if you turned it down, it would just go back. I tested this after disconnecting the new amp pushing the new, now useless speakers. I got a full return from them but they would not compensate for the 1k in speakers that were now junk. I busted my nut on buying all those speakers and sub, but I was able to get another set of focals for the front and some hertz for the rear. I replaced the sub with the same one I had and got a kenwood head unit, powered by a 5 channel amp. Sometimes these work great and for those it does, awesome. Buyer beware that these may or may not have flaws and may be an expensive mistake. I will say, the sound quality is much better from the kenwood, since it has a 13 band eq compared to the 3 on the andriod. Also having a crossover that I can set on the head unit, lets me fine tune the sound. Sorry for the rant, but I just thought you peeps should know.

 

Ditto that. I had enough and sent that pos packing . I had to many issues that popped up while I was trying to focus on the road.

 

I've had mine for 2 years now with way less issues than the stock HU was giving me. This radio is only worth your time if your willing to work with it and set everything up correctly to your specific truck. Just like everything else im sure there are lemons out there, but most people with them that can tinker and have patience get them working correctly. Hate it for the guys that have had issues they couldn't work out.

 

2 years plus for mine, I see alot of people diving in and changing to much and not documenting the changes then get frustrated.

 

Wow - this is horrible, and this was exactly my fear. Bleeding edge tech can add a lot of risk in an expensive electrical system. Appreciate the heads up. I'll drop this idea in the "Nope" bucket.

 

I do want to be clear that this may not happen to everyone. Some people have a very good experience with theirs and I’m jealous. It’s really nice and I wish it would have worked out.
