Steering rack bushings replacement help

I'm attempting to replace the bushings on the steering rack but mine doesn't drop down far enough to get the old bushings out. Anyone else did this on a first gen? I was thinking about taking off the tie rods but dont really want to do unnecessary work if I can help it. Anyone have any tips or tricks? I havent removed the sway bar as it seems to really not get in the way but maybe I should.Thanks much. I probably should have sobered up before doing this.

You’ll need to put the truck on jack stands to allow the wheels to hang and move freely. Once the wheels are up you can use your feet and knees to manipulate wheels, and thus the rack, to move it just enough to punch those bushings out.

 

I think I watched that video seemed like the racks just dropped off. Anyhow I had to take the drivers side tie rod off and all is good. Thanks

 

Mine took some finagling. No need for tie rod removal. Looks like you’ll need an alignment since the tie rod was removed.

 

After removing all the bolts to the steering rack then the sway bar the rack would not come back far enough to get those bushings out. I just popped the tie rod out of the knuckle so hopefully my alignment will still be good. Now Im just trying to find that dang bolt for the sway bar and Im good to go.
