Suicide Jockey or Not a big Deal 38 Gallon Tank ?

So I’ve looked at the Transfer Flow, the Long Range and the Factory 38 gallon tank and I’m really pondering how important is the 3rd tank strap/ “W” strap up front. The TF and LR tanks hold 8 more gallons of fuel and do it with the stock 26 gallon mounting locations. Are there any Suicide Jockeys running the 38 gallon tanks on the 2 rear straps and keeping it under their hats? Time to fess up boys and girls....

 

There are people on here that have admitted to doing it. But most of us (that have commented) think it’s stupid and potentially endangers not just anyone in said truck, but any other vehicle that may be involved in a collision with said truck. I hope you don’t.

 

I’m all for safety but looking at the front/3rd strap it looks like overkill to me. I’m actually wondering if anyone has seen any adverse effects from going with two straps/Is this over engineering on Toyota’s behalf?

 

It may be over-engineering. That said, your liability will be crazy high if you skip it and someone is injured. So, even if you discount the danger, there’s this.

I’m still a little sore that Toyota didn’t make the tank standard for 2020 they made the 5.7 standard.
