I would like to suggest chat functionality for the forum. It would reduce number of repetitive posts on same topic. A single chat that anyone can join to promote social distancing/troubleshooting/bs.

An effective search engine, religiously used by members, could prevent repetitive posts. I can't visualize how a "chat" inquiry to all current forum users about a topic would even be possible.

Chat dialog could be directed to an individual, like an instantaneous PM, but to hundreds of individuals? Like group text, the responses to an original text can become overwhelming to an individual recipient if they are not interested. Consider the traffic of multiple chat windows popping open simultaneously. I suppose the site developer could also provide the opportunity for individual users to decline chat windows popping up, but then you're back where you started, because no one likes incessant pop-ups.

I'd say a single chat room open for anyone to join and not a broadcast to all.

How about a way to save something for future reference; pics or links. Like a quick favorites folder. I am often searching for something previously seen trying to reference or tell another member. As mentioned the search function isn't always great.
Maybe we have this now but do not know about it.
Picturing "star" icon like in a browser.

41.7% voted yes, re-engaging the chat function action chatter for the upcoming 2nd wave quarantine! Immediate satisfaction of instantaneous replies while physcially distancing will fill the void instead of waiting for thread posts.

That's what a topic specific sub forum is, and what threads are within a sub forum. Chats that you can selectively participate in. There is a user to user chat that can have multiple participants, it's in the top right corner. If you want notifications, "watch" the thread, the option is at the top of the page. Aggregation of knowledge is in the stickies at the top of the forums. If there's something that needs to be added, put it together and talk to the mods.

Not being a jerk, there's lots of the functionality on site already.

    Function before sparkle.
No chat. Why? No easily searchable history and more garbage for mods to deal with.
