My Front Blinkers Anger Me

I’ve had mine for almost a year and they’ve been perfect.

Haven’t wiggled loose, no problems in 0° weather overnight in Steamboat, still as bright as ever.

Been almost 2 years since upgrade to VLED for the front turn signals. Can see the reflection on stop signs 1 block away when turning. I'm sure that there are other products that are just as effective, I just feel happier with VLED.
Went with lower cost VLED bulbs and yes resistors in the back for the turns. Looking to do the 3rd brake light and cargo lights as soon as they become available. My opinion is VLEDs removes all doubt about your intentions to turn or stop.

Drove the Tundra tonight and I can now see the amber flash on the pavement while I was waiting to turn facing downhill.

 

I love seeing my LED blinkers reflecting off of stuff. Something very high class about it.

This is a weird question but if I put the LED turn signals in the front, and I put the resistors on the rear turn signals, will I have any issues with hyper flash?

 

Is there some reason you don't want to also change the rear turn signals to LEDs?

The resistances of both front and rear lamps is being sensed as a total resistance. I suspect it will make no difference if the resistors are mounted in the front or the rear, but the ohms will have to be adjusted depending if only the two fronts, or all four corners, are converted.

If you need resistors to prevent hyperflash for the fronts, and you convert only the fronts, you'll need one 6 ohm resistor per side. If you convert all four corners, 3 ohm resistors are needed, one per side. If you're a glutton for punishment, and just love cutting, splicing, and soldering, you can alternately do one 6 ohm resistor at each corner, total of four resistors.

Location of the resistors is optional, and a heck of a lot easier and safer in the rear.

 

Thanks for answering my question. I was thinking it would be easier and better to install in the rear. That is why I asked. As for changing the rear to LED, I’m just not really sold on it being worth it. I know the bulbs are relatively cheap, and it looks more modern but I would rather wait to see some purpose made LED tail lights rather than just changing the bulb. Like the 18+ headlights, would like something made for LED back there. So I was just going to wait until I find something that I like.

 

Would probably want to check the factory wire gauge could handle the increase current by adding a resistor in parallel to the standard filament bulb.

At least when you add a resistor to an led bulb lead, you're just making up for the decrease load.

 

It seems like if youre truck is 2017 and older you will definitely need a 6 ohm resistor to prevent hyperflash up front when switching to LED turn signals. If youre 2018+ its just plug and play.

i just instaled VLEDs today and needed to install resistors (tried the install without them first). Definitely a worthwhile upgrade, the blinkers are much more visible, and now they all engage at the same time (my mirrors and taillights are LEDs).

 

For Canadian 2018 and up Tundra owners with LED headlights and LED DRLs, I can confirm the JDM Astar bulbs do not hyperflash.

 

So I have a 2020 Pro, and I installed the Triton V6 Amber Extremes up front and didn’t need resistors. Then I put in the VLED red 36 921 LED bulbs in the rear and experienced hyper flash. I added the VLR-10 PNP resistor and still had hyper flash. I then switched out to the VLR-6 and still had hyper flash, just worse as it was intermittent sound. I called VLED customer service several times throughout and they have been awesome to work with. They believe I have too much resistance, so they shipped me out the VLR-25 pnp resistor and feel that will work. I’m going to test it this week but I I think they finally dialed it in with me. I’ll keep everyone posted and let you know if it works.

 

2019 Limited with the LED head lamps

Going to try to add to this thread. Took the leap and changed out front blinkers. JDMASTAR just like some here. Worked great.

Next, changed out the reverse lights. JDMASTAR also. Worked great.

Just installed new rear tail lights that comes with LED lights.
Had hyper flashing on both sides when tested. Then a fuse blew. Will be looking for the blown fuse and adding resistors 6ohm in each turn signal in each rear tail lamp.

Will report back.

 

Which tail lights are those? They look really good, I would have just figured that they would come with resistors built into them like some others have.

 

I believe those are the spyder smoked. I just got the same ones and absolutely love it. Its not too tinted, so its still visible during the day

Vegas4x4 that looks awesome!!! Your location says vegas... how on earth do you keep that black truck looking clean? I was there for the super bowl and my rental looked like it when through sand dunes at the end of 3 days.

 

It was windy during Super Bowl! When it windy, black trucks dont stand a chance! One dust storm, or even a puddle with these wide wheels and the truck is filthy. I keep the tundra in a garage, if the weather isnt nice i drive my 1st gen sequoia.

1. stepping on brake (headlights off)
2. Stepping on brake (headlight on)
3. Night time driving: the tube lights stay on with the headlights on
4. Turn signal (headlight on)

If the headlight switch is off, the tube light engages with the adjoining brake/blinker. You could have the tubelights as a DRL if u turn your headlight switch one click (photo 3)

Recieved and installed the 6 ohm resistors in each tail lamp at the blinker connection. Same ones that were posted earlier on this thread. Had some issues but it was the red quick splice connectors. Double checked those and then worked.

The fuse for the tail lamp is a red 10 amp mini low profile type of fuse found inside the cabin driver-side above the left foot. The 10A fuse is located above 2-20A fuses and is labeled "TAIL" on the diagram on the cover. Replaced that and so far so good.

Again, this is for a 2019 tundra limited crewmax. It seems to vary from model year of where the specific fuse location is.

Looking to replace the front and rear turns - any recommendations on bulbs without resistors?

 

Anyone know if the V6 Tritons (or any other recommendations) will work in my upgraded OEM LED that still have the amber DRL. (I didn't do the amber delete mod.) I'm planning on needing resistors.

If anyone wants to know, I tried installing the Spyder Red Smoked Taillights on my 2020 Pro and I got hyperflash. I have the JDM Astar Front Turn signal bulbs and my guess this is causing it. I also tried the Triton PNP bulbs up front with resistors and it still will not prevent hyperflash moving to the 921 LED bulbs in the rear. I spoke with VLED and they need to do more testing on the 2020 Tundra as they said they are baffled and that these new models must be super sensitive to LED bulbs and hyperflash.

I haven't tried putting in resistors in the rear yet as I don’t want to cut into my wires and looking for PNP options just nothing exists at this point. I assume it will work if I do that. I want to save others the trouble before making different investments to get LED bulbs to work in the rear turn signal when you have LEDs up front.

 

Any luck with 2020 model full switch yet?

 

I just installed the vled switchbacks and they work perfect with the spyder led tail lights. I used 50w 3ohm resistors off Amazon.
