Hello all! We're originally from Texas but moved out to Arizona since I got accepted into graduate school out here. We sold her Audi Q5 since our family is growing even larger (1yo and 1 on the way). Plus we needed something larger, more comfortable and most of all reliable since we frequently shoot home to Tx a few times a year. Our budget was $6-7K since I'm currently a full time student. I started off with a search for the Gen 1 sequoias but I figured, after calculating in timing service and etc, I might as well try to find a Gen 2 within my range. After searching high and low, I found a 2008 with 230K miles! But maintenance was up to date and it had all the bells and whistles she wanted (power lift gate). Needless to say, I'm the type of person that cannot leave anything stock.

So I started off with installing this Android 10" radio. It was like $140 from aliexpress. Cheap but instructions sucked and service was worse. I have a factory amp so I had to figure everything out on my own to get audio working correctly. I also installed a wireless CarPlay dongle. We just hop in and go!

Next up, I found this nifty USB panel that fits perfectly into the empty slots. I required some trimming but it fits now.

Before getting the sequoia. She told me she was kind of nervous driving and parking it. So a 360 birdview camera with blind spot video (when signaling) was at the top of the list. I still need to calibrate the 360 view part

Next up was headlights. I have LS460 headlight projectors laying around, so I was going to go with that route but ended up scoring 2018+ driver side headlight for cheap. So, I went ahead and found a passenger side off eBay. I painted the filler pieces myself.

My latest project was getting rid of the chrome and installing this sweet TRD style grill from alibaba thanks to member Beau on here. I personally like it better since it doesnt have the lateral accents. I went ahead and got the orange led's while I was at it.

Um...I think there is an unwritten rule that states you aren't allowed to get ideas from someone else and then make your truck look better with their parts:). JK, awesome job! I am leaning HEAVILY towards these 2018+ headlights! Not a fan of the amber in the grill though...just my opinion.

Great job with the painting too!

Don't be jealous, just jump in and start modding. It's not hard or terribly expensive compared to purchasing a new truck;).

Lol! yours is cleaner! Esthetically, they're nicer but your performance and light output is better.
I was actually on the fence on the orange LED's but it grew on me and I'm looking for some for the Jeep.

Can you post some more pics with the low beams off and DRLs on? I’m still considering making the swap to those headlights and you are the only one that has them and the same grill as me. Thanks.

quickly snapped one while I swapped rear shocks out. Scored them for $25 for the pair. Major improvement!

What paint did you use for the door handles and how is it holding up?

Thanks, I'm pretty much sold on the OEM sequoia headlights....now I just need to save up:). Here is a pic of mine for comparison, the alpharex DRLs are just not bright enough.IMG_0565.jpg

Door handles are fine but theres a rock chip on my mirror and a couple on the grill. If I had to do it again, I would have used a more aggressive scotchbright/sand paper. Maybe even primer.

I sanded down with gray scotch bright, 3 layers of adhesion promotor, 3 layers of Duplicolor perfect match, and 3 layers of Acme Finish 1 clear and hardener (compressed gun)

wow, in other photos I've seen, they seem really bright. I guess no one speaks on the down falls.

yeah, this was in direct sunlight and like I said...a lot to be desired. I think most people take their pics with the best angle/lighting to make them look good and bright. Dont get me wrong, these are way brighter than the spyder lights they replaced.

if you get a chance, can you take a pic of the cutoff of your lights and maybe a shot down a dark road. I have yet to see performance pics of them.

Hey @still in school ! I, myself am new here as well and your sequoia is coming along killer!
@Beau is a huge helping hand, basically a cheat code. Lol.

But I did get the same grill and wanting to spray paint it as well like you.

If you don’t mind, could you tell me what paint you used and how you went about it?

sure! I’ll try to snap some the next time we’re out at night. I’ve been busy with a bunch of exams and prepping for our next road trip.
