What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

I will once again blame ethanol!

 

Trust me, I only use ethanol free gas in my small engines. The issue is that little port inside the float bowl gets clogged. So I have to take the float bowl off and use a safety pin to clear it. This pressure washer has been a POS since I bought it. Never buy a used one from Lowe's. It wasn't worth the savings.

 

New Tacoma front end looks like it has buck teeth!

 

Ahh i see. Have you tried running it out of fuel before storing it for more than a week? Might help.

 

I do! I think it looks meaner. Didn't really see the pig nose until you called it.. damn it!!

 

Would it be worth to buy and rebuild these? Also Would I rebuild them myself or get someone rebuild it?

 

The upper shock cap can be hard to get off. Rebuilding shocks isn't too hard, but it is messy and tedious. With many companies being near you I'd suggest you pay someone or at least pay someone to do it with you. I had to learn the hard and messy way. Not everyone needs to learn like me.

To be fair first gen tundras look a little like fish from the front and 2nd+ gen tundras look like snub-nosed pugs from the side.

 

I've had those for a while. They do the job, but I found the rubber strips got to be slippery in the cold. Eventually I pulled those strips out with pliers with a plan to put something else over it.

They don't look like grandpa steps like the tubes though, so they have that going for them.

 

I drove the Gordita 671 miles (already adjusted for tires and compared to 660 miles on pavement thanks to Google maps) from 06:00 Friday to 13:45 today. 11 miles were off road. Probably about 650 were highway. So about 10 city. Scan gauge averaged about 13.5mpg most of the trip so adjusted for tires 14.7mpg. it was awesome hitting the trails and just as awesome hitting the highway with 75mph speed limits and hammering down passing vehicles. I re-fell in love with this truck. It gets virtually the same mpg as my 3.4 first gen tacos did with way more weight and power and room and it sounds fucking AMAZING when that throttle goes wide open with the flowmaster on stock exhaust with resonator delete and the airaid intake tube. I seriously couldn't not stop hauling ass. What's left of this tank will likely be sacfriced to the speed demons on the highway to work. Usually I leave early so I can go 10-15mph under for better mgps lol. Not tonight. I'll leave 5 mins late haha. I won't speed but I'll be driving aggressively. Too much fun. Fuck I love this truck. I really should have written down the gallons I fueled up with over the trip for a trip average. Oh well. Iirc it was about 48 gallons which puts me at avg 14mpg trip. Not bad.

 

That dude is crazy. He sends it and hangs with the 4x4s and it's only FWD!!
There's a.locked.prerunner.who.can hang too but he blew his diff or the front of it... 3rd member? I think early Saturday. So he was recovered and it took most of the morning into the afternoon. Also there was a PreRunner with open diff that was sending it and he could hang with the stock 4x4s.and the not so stock but noob 4z4s all day

Edit: I guess it just the front skid and I think you already have that one. Bummer. I thought it was the oil pan skid. That's what I get for not reading carefully.

 

Yeah I already looked. I have the first two, I just need the transmission skid. Someday.

 

No transfer case skid?
There's always next Black Friday. Or even given em a call and say you're a forum member and you want to see if you can get a deal for buying the two skids together maybe? I've talked to them a few times now and they were very cool and helpful.

 

I like the 2000-2002 Tundras from the front..but I don't really like the 03-06 grille change at all...but that is probably the only thing I don't really like about my truck.

 

Nah. Transmission is far enough back for my needs and unless we move out west I highly doubt I'll ever even use these things. Very few places around here where I could actually do damage.

 

2nd gen Tundras always look like Dodges to me lol
1st gen looks like F150s from the same era.
3rd gen just.looks like poop.

 

ok makes sense. However if you buy both and talk to them first you maybe could score a discount. You'd be surprised how much a bigger sale can motivate online vendors. And if they say no or the deal they offer isn't enough, just get the tranny skid. Worth a try anyways

 

I finally saw how to adjust the camber on the UCA. Got it straight enough to drive to the alignment with no issues. I'm happy with the setup now. It's way better than the factory worn out shocks, and I like a little rake more than the level kit that was on it.

 

I installed the rear brake proportioning valve extension bracket. Nice to have rear brakes again!

Couple of questions as I was checking things out last night.

Is there a max extension on the slip yoke? Or asked another way, do I need to be worried about it after lifting the rear of the truck?

Is the carrier bearing supposed to have any play? When I grab the drive shaft right next to the bearing, I can move it back and forth a little.

If I'm not getting any driveline vibrations, should I still do a carrier bearing drop? I'm lifted about 2 inches front and rear.

 

I have never once started my pressure washer without having to take the carb apart. Even when it was brand new. This reminds me now that I have a house I need to stop by my brothers and get my washer back.

 

Damn timing! I just ordered a bunch of stuff and then this comes up and I ALMOST ordered until I found out my "team" only invoiced $7800 for my February which means I'll walk away with a whopping $546 for my commission at the end of the month....so I WONT be buying this (or anything else for that matter)! I can only hope they run this again in April...

 

The instructions for mine were to have the knuckle insert from the bottom, with the snap ring on top. I did see a couple of videos where they had the snap ring down. I was a little concerned that I had done it wrong, so I called SPC to make sure. Nicest guys to talk to, they told me that some of their older kits did indeed have the knuckle inserted from the top, but that everything recent should be inserted from below, snap ring on top.

That being said, mine is a 2006, so I don't know if yours would be any different. Although thinking about the forces involved, it makes more intuitive sense to me that the knuckle insert goes under, so that deals with all the weight, rather than just on the snap ring.

 

I have a set I have been tinkering with and they don't came apart nicely...The reflector is also molded into the lens.

If you haven't sealed these ones up yet, that little rubber dohickey can be peeled off so it sits more flush

 

Mine was the same way(05). The guy doing my alignment mentioned the last person who did it themselves had the arms upside down on the wrong sides.
