Wiring 3 way components - How to get wire from door to dash?

Has anyone actually gone ahead and ran a wire from their doors to the dash?
I've got a 3 way component set with crossover and need to run a line from the doors to the dash. Just wondering how involved this is? Also where would be the best spot to mount the crossover?

Technically you can get away with using the stock wiring though i ts worth it to run an appropriate gauge wire in my opinion. If anything, at least you won't be wondering all the time if you're not getting all the power your speakers want to them. You know, piece of mind. And its not that much trouble to do.

I'm not sure if he mentioned this, but some silicone spray makes it a lot easier to slide the wires through the rubber boots.

 

My crossovers are in the cab of the truck. But I ran my woofer and tweeter wires easily by pulling the boots off and I was able to fish a rubber coated hanger wire through the rubber portion. I sprayed the inside with some wd and pulled them through like a hot knife through butter.

Where did you mount your crossovers and are they accessible if you want to adjust the attenuation for the tweeters etc?

 

they are inside the driver and passenger side kick panels.

 

I have Focal PS165FX 2 way components.
Not sure what trim level or HU you have, but my SR5 didn't have tweeters in the door so I bought JBL door sails from @Roman to install my tweeters in.






I ran 14 ga speaker wire from my amp, under the pass seat, to each front door.
I used a good sturdy thick zip-tie to feed the wires thru the boot.
I didn't do the back doors because it wasn't worth the trouble and used the stock wiring for the rears.

I installed my crossovers inside the doors.
I used Command picture hanging velcro to keep them in place.
There are only a couple settings on my crossovers depending on the speaker placement.
Set it and forget it.







3-way wouldn't be too challenging.
If you put crossovers in the door, just run an additional speaker wire thru the door boot and run it to each side of the dash.
The entire dash pretty much pulls apart.

I used 36" HVAC zip-ties to run wiring thru the dash and under the carpet for other wiring.
I've found several other uses for them as well auto and home.

How are you liking the focals I'm torn between these and the jl c5's

 

Very happy with them.
I went to Cartoys to listen to speakers at that time, knew I'd end up buying whatever from Crutchfield.
Going through what they had on the display and the turned the PS165FX on.
I thought WTF these are nice, but I had no intention of paying $600 for front door speakers when I walked in there.
I looked up Crutchfield on the spot, Cartoys beat their price (tax included) and I bought them for $500 out the door.
I also bought my Alpine PDX V9 from Cartoys because they beat Crutchfield's price at the time.
This was all 3 or 4 years ago.

My son-in-law commented on them when he helped me tune the system.
He said they sounded great.

If you have a local shop that has them on display, give them a listen..

 

I have focal integration series in mine they sound amazing and with the 690 6x9 components that fit the front (of mine anyway) you almost don’t need a sub, very good bass response from those.

 

Sound quality wise its probably going to come down to personal opinion.

Just going by what I've read, not heard, from others focal seems to generally be a favorite of the audio community and also have some world class products.

If it were me, I'd go with whichever was the better deal though. Both are really good speakers and I can't imagine having buyers remorse with either one.

 

I know this is an old post but just in case people are still using it for reference I wanted to comment about fishing wires from the door to the main cabin. Others have suggested liquid silicon and WD to lube the wire so it slides through easier but they're overcomplicating things. Keep it simple, use a very small amount of liquid dish soap to lightly coat some of the wire you'll be fishing through. This method works every time provided there is space for the wire to fit through. The added benefit of using dish soap is that even if you use way too much it will not damage or corrode any wiring it comes in contact with. Professional electricians use a similar product when they fish wiring through long runs of conduit in commercial buildings. Hope this helps you guys with your installs.

Summary: USE DISH SOAP TO FISH WIRES FROM THE DOOR TO THE MAIN CABIN OF YOUR VEHICLE (can also use when passing power wires through grommets in the engine firewall).
