We all have it, you can remove it and underneath is a screw that holds the interior panel on. Its just a little piece of carpet.

Lol nope that’s how they come. Some type of carpet that doesn’t fit great. Careful when you vacuum.

I wouldn't bother, it's a semi rigid piece of carpet that doesn't fit well. You could make something better. When I first noticed them I was sure the previous owner made them, then I noticed them in my buddies tundra too

Toyota trying to save a penny. My early 2000s toyotas all came with rubber inserts that had grips on sides to be Easily removable to dump the dust/dirt/crap out. The cheapening of Toyota does not feel good nor forecast a Great future.

I hesitated saying anything but okay here it goes.... We all paid good money for a “reliable vehicle” and we got that along with a company that stands behind their product. I have owned multiple Ram Limited vehicles over the last 10 years and the Cummins is a reliable workhorse, their interior the best of the big 3 but electronics and transmissions stink so I guess none are perfect.

It’s just disappointing that for $50k+ (sticker)I have an incredibly reliable vehicle built by a company known for taking care of their customers but unless it has their Lexus label on it the interior quality is subpar from seat comfort to electronics. In my lifetime I have owned 5 Tacoma’s that were bulletproof but none were ever cutting edge with electronics and their seats were about as comfortable as the aluminum bleachers at the high school stadium.

Flip the coin to my wife’s GX460 and everything from the stereo to the 4wd capabilities knocked your socks off so I knew in the back of my mind what I was getting for my money and am not regretting my decision/purchase but just would like to tell someone at Toyota “Really” on some interior issues but I will end my rant.

I hope I haven’t offended any of the awesome members here as you can see my same screen name on the Tacoma forum for over 10 years and always had a great rapport there and hope to do so here as well.

It is not a big deal, but it was just the lack of attention to detail or cutting corners as a previous poster mentioned. I am over it now but it was like my wife would say “REALLY” when it was deemed that the truck comes that way. I can fix it with some rubber shelf or tool box drawer liner.

I think they only put these pieces in there to cover the screw for the door panel while giving easy access. certainly not meant or needed to do anything else. not a big deal at all.

Gotta look at the big picture. If Toyota saves 10 bucks per unit by cutting this corner that has no effect on the function of the truck or whether or not someone buys it, then that's 1.2m bucks more annually they can invest in something that does matter. If there are 10 things on the vehicle that they can shave cost on like this, that's $12,000,000 per year. So I'm okay with a few items like this to get a vehicle that I don't have to worry about lasting. Your point about the Lexus is why they cost a little more. Those little $10 items that make it feel just a little more finished add up to the premium price.
