My '88 I've owned for 20 years now. Started off completely stock. It's evolved a little over the years.

 

Got to love a nice old 4 runner ! Way to keep the dream alive boys , that just goes to show you why we all love Toyota’s !

 

By far my favorite Toyota vehicle.

Nah, no way I would EVER sell or trade to a dealer. I should have said "replaced" with the Tundra.

Sold it to a young guy that wanted to get into camping in rough country...$8900. I amortized my original investment pretty well; I bought it for $13500 in January, 1987, with 13K miles on it. It had an engine rebuild due to my ignorance, a couple of master cylinders, brake pads, but otherwise nothing but normal maintenance.

It broke my son's heart when I sold it. I needed something new for primary transportation, and I couldn't afford to give it away. It was tired with 189K miles, needed tires, interior plastic was turning to dust. My wife thought it was questionable for a long trip, but I would have driven it to El Paso if needed.

But, I am too old to be standing on the side of the road. Adventure is for the young.

 

Not janky, just a cheap alternative. Actually rides better too believe it or not.

only get to drive mine 4 months out of the year here in Canada... was a Nevada truck before we imported it, rust proofed it and condemned it to summer driving only as there isn’t even surface rust on the frame...

How long have you had the soft topper? I like the look of them better than my KTT. The ktt has a loose fit. Drives me nuts

 

I've been running a 1.5" bjs for about 6 years now. Never had any issues whatsoever. And I've run every black diamond in Big Bear. Just make sure to get a quality one from 4crawler, not a cheap chinesium one off ebay or Amazon.

Have you adjusted your torsion bars?

 

No. Not running the diff drop. Have not adjusted the torsion bars either. Didn't need to with the pinch-weld mod. Even before I lifted it, the 33s cleared. They only rubbed when turning at full lock. Make sure to get it aligned immediately after installing.

 

I've had a a couple, this is my 86' that I still have (bought in 91). 600HP death machine! I was able to blow wheelies. I've blown up everything 2 or even 3 times and finally rebuilt everything myself until it was bullet proof. I've put it aside for a while (kids) but will get her running again someday.

If I keep my 97 FJ 80 I think I’ll eventually LS swap it the d Ed Nguni is kinda a turd it had a lot of low end but it’s just not impressive, although it just keeps running . I might sell it soon !

I was raised on Chevy with my father , he has a 59 corvette , 54 2 dr hard top and a 36 Chevy short window pickup. I’ve definitely crossed over owning nothing but Toyota’s and Honda’s but American muscle is still ok , I work on a lot of 6.0 and 4.8 liters at work and I’ve seen plenty go 3-4 hundred k , that’s not to shabby . I agree that Toyota is generally for superior but the last platform is pretty damn well built .

 

Damn! That’s a nice clean one! With the best motor too!
