Does Toyota warranty this?

Going to stop at dealership but thought I would get you all’s wisdom. 2016 tundra with 44,000 miles and extend warranty. Roof line at windshield is rusting. Windshield never replaced. Feel this could get bad and a Toyota issue not mine

At nearly 5 years old and 44k miles, that’s going to be a pure wear and tire viewed item.

 

White paint on third gens had qc issues from the factory in some cases. It may be a good idea to see what Toyota would do.

 

I’m not sure about Toyota’s warranty on rust through , mine has a lifetime unlimited mile warranty for rust through . They should do something though , it shouldn’t be rusting in less than 5 years , unless you had stone chips there and didn’t fix them .

I have a paint and finish protection warranty to cover things like that. It wasn't a lot of money and I've used it twice already with great success. However, mine were just chips and scratches that were addressed as soon as they happened, nothing at the rust level of yours... Always have a touch-up bottle of paint to prevent that from happening. If I get a chip, I throw the touch-up on until I get it in. But to answer your question, I doubt the factory warranty will cover that, best shot is a good body shop. That's who essentially comes to the dealership to work on my truck. It's quick, easy, and they have amazing mobile work trucks to repair minor chips and scratches these days.

 

Those look like rock chips. That’s not a manufacturers defect or anything of that nature. So, I wouldn’t think it would be covered under warranty.

Yeah, those were likely caused by stones/debris hitting the edge of the roofline. It may be tough getting Toyota to cover that.

 

The answer is always no until you ask.

 

I see rock chips that could have been corrected before the rust set in. Highly doubt warranty will cover that. Still, shouldn't cost much for correction.

I wouldn't wait on some stinking warranty, just fix is ASAP before it gets worse.

live in CO with snow on vehicle most of winter.. definitely new as of couple months ago

 

If your State uses salt on the roads in the winter then you need to get that fixed ASAP.

 

FYI...Very little salt used here. Mag chloride is used primarily, although a salt, is not near as corrosive as NACL. My 12 year old 07 had no rust when I traded it in.
