Leaking water in cab!

Hey guys, first time on here. I want to make people aware. I recently purchased a brand new 2019 Tundra and it has been a nightmare. Truck currently has only 8500km. I previously drove a first gen Tundra for over 10 years without an issue and a 4runner prior to that which is why I decided I want another. Anyone else experience this issue or did I buy the only poorly made Tundra out there? My loyalty to Toyota is fading.

1st Dealer visit: Adjusted sunroof tray

2nd Visit: Removed headliner and found leak from sunroof drain tube.

3rd visit!!!: Removed headliner again and found leak from seam sealer failure. Truck is currently at a bodyshop having seam sealer ground out and redone properly.

 

Welcome. That’s nasty. I’d look it over closely for evidence of hail repair. If it’s got weird bumps and or broken paint anywhere I’d fight to get out of it.

 

Truck was shipped from Texas to me, had like 8km on it if I remember right. No accidents or previous damage, this was a flaw from assembly line. I think Toyota should be very concerned as how many others are out there with this issue that are unaware.

 

Is Toyota hiding something though? I told dealership I wanted to come see the truck when they dropped the headliner. They completely ignored my request and instead I got a call saying "we found the leak and have sent truck to bodyshop to be repaired" wtf?

I would fight for them to take it back. Based on those stains, that is not just a little water. That is a significant leak.

 

If you're in Canada, I don't think you have a lemon law AFAIK.
I hope they replace all the water damaged parts.

 

Sorry to see this, I have a 2020 Limited and have not noticed anything with the sunroof but then again, I'm garage kept. Do you park it outside all the time?

 

All dealers may hide stuff when it's warranty work. Once they got the headliner off this last time, it might have looked pretty rough, and they don't want the customer quarterbacking their repair. Their objective is to make warranty repair with as little expense to Toyota as possible, and that may involve reusing "less-than-perfect" parts if they are functional.

For example, in your case, they may be tempted to reuse that headliner by trying to clean/repair those stains to make it acceptable to you, or hope you'll miss it until you accept the truck. That's the first thing I would inspect when I picked it up. If the stains were still visible, I would raise hell immediately as being unacceptable. If it were me, I would drop into their bodyshop unannounced and take a look before they get it back together.

 

Who knows what other damage is underneath unseen. Has the water gone down the interior,into plugs or harness? Could you potentially have issues after your warranty expires?? Or rust in the future?? What can you NOT see/what is NOT being looked at???

If it was me,and I spent that much money on a truck,I’d be doing my best to give it back.

 

Op this might be a health hazard since there is clear water spots on the headliner you might have mold growing under there and that looks like a significant leak not some minor drain tube drip.I would call toyota corporate and press for a buy back if this is a factory flaw not body repair. Mold and metal rust is probably the reason your dealer didnt want you to see the truck while headliner was dropped!

 

That is first thing I did when they called to say it went to bodyshop. I went straight there and inspected it myself, I couldn't see any damage but I do wonder how much water has ran down and soaked under the carpet. Truck is always parked outside and washed regularly. I haven't contacted corporate yet but I have def thought about it, I guess I have nothing to lose but I'm sure as dealership is "fixing" this issue I'll be stuck with this lemon and I'll lose huge trading it in so soon. So disappointing, I miss my 2006. They dont make them like they used too.

CAMVAP will only help if dealer/manufacturer will not fix the issue or they have attempted to fix the issue 3 or more times. So providing this is finally fixed this time I think I am stuck with this thing for now. I do plan to contact head office regarding this but I'm sure it will fall on def ears. I'll keep ya posted

 

No you don't. Three or more times mean three times same problem you should file it the second time they didn't fix it.
And they should at lease clean all the rust spot and stains on liner. Not your fault the truck is leaking, you pay for new truck, not a used one. I will start cussing if I have that problem on my truck.

Try this video. Really long but in the first few minutes it shows you the front sunroof drains. Start there first.

 

Should be a simple dealer fix under warranty. Take your hands off the nuclear option. Dang.

 

Oh, I'd go nuclear pretty fast. It's a brand new d@mn truck! With the amount these things cost, that's ridiculous. I feel for you OP.

Between crooked axles, automatic headlights shutting off and cam towers leaking, gotta rethink this reliability thing.

My flame suit is now on for the all the fanboys. Just calling em like I see em folks. Toyota reliability has changed.

 

I had this issue on my jeep, the drain tubes were clogged, so water was coming through the cab pillar. Cleaned out just the front drain tubes and I never had the issue again. I couldn't find the rear drain tubes though. But that was on a 10 year old vehicle, this shouldn't be happening on something new.

 

First I’ve seen a tundra with an issue like this. Very possible it’s a flaw from the factory but likely a very isolated case. Let them fix it and demand a new headliner.

dont let them reuse the headliner or anything else stained by the water. Otherwise you’ll end up with a smell on hot days or worse a mold problem

 

Last call on toyota as they moving to mexico soon. I will not by another toyota again.

 

I'm in a similar situation with my 2019 CM 3k miles- the AC condensation was leaking into the cab and pooling up under the carpet. Dealer couldn't find the leak the first time; said it looked like something was spilled. Brought it back a second time and they found the leak, plan to replace the carpet as well. About a week goes by and they tell me Toyota wants to take my truck to have it sanitized. Dealer doesn't even know what that means - I think either they are playing dumb, or they ARE dumb. Oh yeah, they also said they had to do some grinding and send it to the body shop before it goes to Toyota.

Yeah I'm pissed. I talked to a lawyer who said that unless it's a safety issue, they're unlikely to do a buy back. Still gonna pursue it. Good luck with your Tundra.

 

Whoa...Grinding? Body shop? Sanitizing? I've dealt with persistent mold, but that's ridiculous!!! In the spy movies, "sanitizing" by a "clean up crew" means getting rid of the dead bodies.
