What is the filter in the air box lid

I've been told it's a charcoal filter

 

It’s a filter installed by Toyota to appease the liberals. I removed mine to piss them off.

It's just a filter for emissions when you shut the truck off. Most of us remove it. It won't hurt anything at all by removing it.

Except for you chances of passing a smog check. If the Tech notices it’s gone he can fail you I believe. It’s considered a modified emissions device.

That being said I would remove it.

at 15 years old, not surprised its dirty. That bottom corner with what looks like a burn might be a little concerning to see.....

 

Makes sense. And actually that “burn is kinda like an oily substance. It was inside the intake(still is) throttle body, and hose thing in between the air box and throttle body. I replaced this piece and the throttle body and now I’ve taken this out. Any clue why oil is coming up? Looks like it’s been doing it a while.

 

It makes sense if it was on your TB as well. Probably years of small residual fumes and dirt mixing together. I dont think I would be worried about it if everything is running fine and you arent failing smog or anything.

 

Probably, and a lack of smog checks is one of my favorite things in Arkansas!
