Hi! This is my first post here, go easy on me!

I previously owned another unicorn, a 2014 RCSB Tacoma with 4x4 and a 5MT. I quickly learned that the 6' bed was not big enough for the materials I was hauling and the little cab BARELY had enough space for a second person plus tools.

I sold my Tacoma and I've been in the market for a DCLB Tundra SR5 4x4 with a bench seat up front, low miles and a color other than white. It's a BIG ask. Apparently, SR5's rarely come with bench seats, let alone in any color other than white.

I finally found a 2014 the other day and it's about 350 mi away from me. It checked ALL the boxes and it came in grey! Low miles and the asking price was extremely reasonable ( $25k for a 50k mi truck ). Ran a carfax and although it's got a clean title... it's a theft recovery :(

Seeing as to how I've been searching tirelessly for months now... how big of a gamble is a theft recovery? Will it hurt future resale value a lot or are these trucks resilient enough to plow through a smudge on their records?

Where are you and where is the truck? You may be able to find a Tundras.com member near the truck, willing to go check it out for you.

The truck's in Fremont, CA. I'm in Los Angeles, CA.

I've never heard of a forum member going out of their way to check out a truck for another forum member. BUT maybe I just got too used to tacomaworld haha

I just traded in my 2016 DCLB SR5 bench seat in gray but it was only 2WD.

traded it for a 2020 SR5 DCLB unicorn with the SR5-upgrade package.

Yeah, a few on here are that friendly. But it’s those that grew up, more than they were on TacomaWorld :boink:. Maybe a little harder since you just joined up. But if I were nearer, I’d probably do it. I’m in San Diego though, no where near a Fremont. Maybe you could offer up some good beer in exchange for a hand with this, if you find someone closer to Fremont.

I've seen a lot of decent 2WD examples out there. This might sound like a stupid question but how many times did you wish you had 4WD?

I have a dedicated 4WD rig, a 2WD Expedition I use for smaller covered loads and this Tundra will be my oversized load mover for anything over 10' long. I live in a pretty dry area and it snows maybe once a century or two but I'd like to take the lady and her friends camping with me one day. Not sure if that warrants having 4WD, to be honest. Every dealership I drop in on tells me most of their 2WD customers come back to trade in for 4WD, though.

In case you're wondering, my lady refuses to go on long trips in the 4WD truck that I have because...it smells like exhaust and gasoline most of the time... but I refuse to sell it.

Never. Not once. But I live in the middle of the Sacramento Valley. We never get any snow, my 5 acres is flat as a pancake. The times the roads have flooded (usually once or twice a winter) my 2WD tundra has been high enough to wade through without any issues.

We have a Subaru Outback if we want to go to the mountains during the winter.

    But everyone is different.
