I’m wanting to add a slim subwoofer box in and there is zero room anywhere in these things. I don’t really use the storage bins under the rear seat. Is it possible to remove those while still being able to use the back seat, or is that required to be there for the seat to be supported.

this is my first post on here so please be patient with me.

    Welcome,
My 2004 should not be that much different and mine would not lose the support If I was doing what you are considering.

Jump on in, these folks don't bite !

I’m not into the boom box stuff (had enough of that back in the 70’s Harlem days carrying the things on my shoulder to the b-ball court). *I think* some people have installed a slim sub in those storage holes and just flopped the seat back down over it.

Others have built big sub boxes and put them on the rear seat directly behind the front seats (dangerous!).

The metal body under the fold up seats is necessary for support. If you want to remove the back seat entirely, its held with 4 14mm? bolts. Easy to take out.

Did I go easy enough on you?:D

Build a box that meets the seat if you can. You can remove that metal by section, look up the q logic box. It replaces the metal.

There isnt much room on driver side, I considered doing the same and extending it across but there is a bulge on the drivers side for the gas tank o believe.

Planning to either put a bass speaker in the passenger hole by enlarging it, or remove the metal structure under the rear seat and build a wood box. Problem with removing the metal box is that it looks to have purpose other than having 2 little holes for storage. Assuming Toyota wouldn't go to the effort/extra expenditure just for tiny storage it offers. But instead the metal is there for keeping structural integrity or rigidity of the access cab body.

Yup. Unfortunately they come with a big price tag and the speakers you can use are kind of limited by depth.

I ran a single 12 and sacrificed the seat behind the driver side for years but now that I'm married and wife doesn't want a live concert I plan to downsize to a pair of 8s.

I've looked under that seat and measured the size, if I get a shallow 10" or a pair of shallow 8"s I could make a box to fit. I also considered making brackets for the lower seat mounts to lift them an inch (think Bpv kit) for a bit more clearance. At the end of they day I might just say f it and buy the q logic, sometimes the time spent isn't worth saving a bit of cash.

Has anyone removed the metal box that's underneath the rear seats of the extend cab? If so, any problems with body or rear window cracking or water leakage into rear cab and floor from doing so?

It isn't really structural. It's more like half a box, I dont even think its necessary to hold to seat.

Ya think anyone here has removed the steel shell underneath the rear seat in the AC?

On TS lots of guys removed it in favor of the plastic speaker box. It's just a thin stamped frame.

Either I'm going to take out the metal frame all the way across and build a sub box, or I'm going to take put just the half on the passenger side and install the q logic box.

When.... life permits. Priorities are elsewhere.

I'm thinking modifying the passengers side for the bass. That is unless I get a change of mind that the stamped shell has something to do with the cabs rigidity/integrity.

It isn't structural at all. I've pulled back the carpet and looked at mine before.

Heres what I had in mind but more likely with a pair of 8s.

Nice. Have a 10" JL that I will make fit under the passenger rear seat. Metal or not.
What does that JL enclosure fit? A 1st gen??

It's a custom made box, a bit more fancy than I would do but its roughly what I may build.

Another option if you want some bass but don't need it to bump the entire vehicle is a compact powered sub. I bet one would fit under the front seats. If I ever add a sub this is likely the route I would go because I would rather use the space under the back seat for storing gear. This Sound Ordnance has good reviews and might fit under a front seat.

"At only 2-3/4” tall, this enclosure is designed to fit into those tight spots in your vehicle such as under a front seat, behind a truck seat, or inside a storage compartment. It's an excellent solution that allows you to pump up the bass while saving space."

I have a Kenwood KSC-SW11 powered subwoofer under the back passenger seat of my 06 Double Cab. I won't rattle the windows but it fills out the sound nicely on my audio system and I have been pleased with it.

Do you know if it's thin enough to fit under one of the front seats?

I don't. The dimensions are 11"W x 2-3/4"H x 7-1/2"D. I do know it would not fit behind the back seat mounted to the back of the cab wall without leaving out the panel that covers the back of the cab interior. That was my original plan. So I put it under the back seat which turned out to be a better fit and location.

Do you have any photos of your subs? Did you mount them under the other backseats? I have an 04 DC and i am looking into 2 8"s to put under the back seats, but i dont want to have to cut my seat bottom out to make clearance, like ive seen others do.
