Gas mileage posts are killing me. How about you?

I chose the second option, because the Earth is flat.

Had a 2018 Eco-Boost with 10 speed trans, was great without a load on the highway, but it was actually worse than a V-8 with a 4,000LB travel trailer strapped to it going 70.

I had a '15 silverado. Combined got 17MPG. Tundra gets 15. Unless you drive all highway you dont see a huge benefit with MPGs. I truly don't understand because trucks have been getting 15-17mpg for years. Now all of a sudden its an issue? I like to call these people the soccer dads of the world. Lets buy a $60K truck because they look "cool" and haul my kids around; then complain about gas mileage.

 

Costco 91 octane. I save 20 cents a gallon and call it a win..we all knew what we were getting into when we purchased..13mpg is my happy place.

Is there a way to increase my MPG with an envelope, a rubber band and paper clip?

I find most of the MPG posts are simply asking how to improve mpg with simple mods or changes in behaviour. I dont think thats unreasonable. Yes it likely gets annoying for veterans on here, but likely many of you same veterans asked annoying questions when you started out on here too.

 

For every person that complains ... there is another that is worse off:

New Tundra Owner: How do I get better mileage?

CA Tundra Owner: Have you seen our gas prices? Registration Fees?

European Tundra Owner: We pay $7/gallon!!! Roads are too frickin small for my Tundra!!!

I was getting 17-18mpg in my 95 7.3, and the price difference in diesel and gas was enough that I'm still ahead with driving my tundra. I average around 13 to 13.5 in the tundra, with my best being 14.5.

 

How slow do you have to drive to get that?

 

That's the key. I saw that while driving 60-65mph. Start going quicker and your mpg will fall dramatically. At 70-75 I will see 17-18mpg. 80mph and I'm down to 15-16mpg.

 

Earth may not be flat......but it's lumpy.

 

I am in Austin and it seems like a day drive every direction to get out of the state.

 

Slow? Do you mean below the speed limit? I drive the speed limit and I get 20 mpg quite a lot as well. What gets me is that many of you will bitch because people ask how to maximize the Tundra mpg's, but then you bitch when someone actually gets better mileage than you do.

 

LoL, When I bought my 1st Tundra in 2014, I went from my CRX 30+mpg to my Tundra KNOWING the less than half expected mpg out of it. I was driving my Tacoma V65sod 4x4( 15mpg ) at the time and traded it in. My commute was about 50miles a day. I didn't buy my truck for fuel mileage, I bought it because I wanted a truck and I love Toyota's. FE was the last thing on my mind when I bought it. Gas for me was @ $3.50 + or - a gallon in 2014. My boss at the time had a Ecoboost F150. It got better mpg if you drive it easy and was unloaded. But when both had a trailer and some weight to pull around, they got close to the same.

 

I wouldn't bitch unless you were in front of me in a no passing zone. I'm happy with 14-15 mpg at 70 mph.

 

In a thread bitching about people talking about MPG, people still start talking about how many MPG they get. Unreal..

 

The last vehicle I owned that was this much fun to drive delivered 10 mpg on a good day, and it wasn't nearly as reliable. I spend $20 to top off the Tundra tank, and then I drive it until I figure $20 will top it off once again... I guess I am getting 14 to 19 mpg, but I really don't care.
