Lower temps...rougher ride?

Discussion in 'Suspension' started by frichco228, Feb 22, 2020.

?

Have you noticed a rougher ride when temps get low- low 30s, 20s or lower?

We have had a mild winter in Va. Yesterday on my way to work it was somewhere in the high 30s, low 40s. Coming home, low 20s. 2016 CM OR package- stock...and the change in ride going home was enough to notice- a bit rougher for sure.

I have noticed the same thing on my OME lifted 2006 4runner. Never had it happen when it was stock but those big OME shocks do firm up when it is super cold and the LT tires on it now do not help ride when they are cold.

Not a huge deal, was just a little surprised. I have never really noticed it happening before on any stock vehicle, only ones where I modified the suspension and used a heavier duty shock.

Am a dreaming? Or do you notice a ride change with more extreme temperature changes?

Everything gets stiffer when cold like tires, shocks, wheels & bearings, road, etc.

one of my cars with winter type Michelin tires makes some noise till tires warm-up ... First time I heard the noise I thought something was wrong with the engine. It only does it when in low 20's and lower.

    Function before sparkle.
Whole truck stiffens up. My dash squeaks like a guinea pig in a dryer when it’s super cold.

My nitto ridge grapplers get stiff when it's cold but after a few miles they heat up and get smoother. They also vibrate a little also until they get warm.buy it has to be in the 20's or colder

Oh yeah everything gets stiff when it’s cold before it gets warmed up, those -20 days the potholes always seem a few feet deeper haha

My Cooper STT pros are horrible in the cold. My rear end oscillates like crazy. Worse than going up a chain drive hill in a rollercoaster. The rear end of the Tundra is the worst I’ve ever come across....maybe because it’s c channel? I’m not sure but it’s very noodly at times.

I’d love for an answer because I’ll pay darn near anything to fix it. I’ve considered going back to P rated tires.

Seeing this thread is reassuring! When it gets 20 degrees or colder, mine vibrates like I've got a flat!! Takes a few miles before it stops. Only truck I've owned that does this.

Same. 3 GM trucks and a Titan and none have done this. Unfortunately my commute is a few miles so I just experience it my entire trip.

Funny i was thinking the same thing today. My pro suspension was so bouncy today heading to Bozeman. Finally soften a little. This when I wish I had HSC, LSC, HSR, LSR adjustments. Dial in your winter ride.

50 degrees today and it was fine. Eventually I’m going to change out the grease on the bushings in the rear and see if it changes anything. If it’s not that then I suspect it’s rubber related, maybe the bushings themselves?

Tires are mostly the cause here, not so much the suspension. However everything gets stiffer and harder in the cold.

I’ve noticed the same thing during my morning commutes. The dash starts to creak and snap as the warm air begins to flow through the vents.

Reminds me of my body when I get up in the morning. Comfortable in bed; comfortable walking around. But that transition requires some stretching, popping and grunting!
