Gas mileage posts are killing me. How about you?

Can we just stop asking how to get better mileage? It’s too much! I want 35’s and a 6” lift and a near 3 ton truck, but woe is me when I have to fill it up! Shut up and get a different vehicle. Please stop complaining and asking how to get better mileage!

 

I agree, you cant drive a 400hp monster with huge tires that weigh 80lbs each and expect to get great gas mileage. There is a price to pay for being a badass

 

They can’t comprehend that you bought a truck, if gas mileage is what your concerned about go get a damn car

 

Yep, they should have bought a Prius, at least it's a Toyota. Or go waste there hard earned money on one of the big 3 piece of shits. I'd rather waste money on gas, than repairs from the big 3.

I told my wife I can get like 33mpg from my tundra, she asked how and I told her "let me buy a motorcycle to ride half the year " lol

 

I bought a A3 TDI and get 39 mpg. That was my solution.

 

Trade it in next year for the twin turbo V6.

 

Mine says 19. Then I calculate it myself and it’s 14.

 

Just bought an 07. I have read that a dual performance muffler set up can help garner another mpg. But, the 5.7 gets good economy for a heavy truck with lots of stock power. Compare to the 17 Malibu I had that weighed 3200 pounds at 35MPG and 1.5L engine... Tundra weighs 5700 pounds, gets 15MPG with a 5.7L engine. Twice the weight, half the mileage, 4X the power!

 

Still won’t get better gas mileage. Turbos aren’t magic.

 

Yep. Running the thing around in boost will decimate gas mileage. Source: years and years of being unable to keep my foot out of turbocharged cars.

I feel blessed to get 14 MPG out of my 2014 5.7 with 34s...

Yes. We all bought the trucks knowing what the mileage was going to be. The sticker had big numbers on it when I bought mine. 15-18 is best case. If you want fuel efficiency get something else.

I'm stupified by it all. Gasoline is very inexpensive. Very. No. It's VERY VERY VERY inexpensive. We should be celebrating that the price of gasoline is no longer controlled by politicians in Washington D.C.

Perhaps the telling sign is this. In another thread (yes, bitching about gas mileage) about a month ago I asked "at what price of gasoline would you NO LONGER CARE about gas mileage?" Yup. You guessed it. Crickets.

How about this. Stop writing blithering Tundra gas mileage posts and instead get busy getting that bumper sticker on yer truck: BORN TO BITCH!

Hell, this is just one of half a dozen or more annoying threads that keep popping up on a regular basis. It garbages up the forums and waters down useful info. Honestly there should only be one gas mileage thread and all others should to be deleted. Anything new gets KOA and the user gets a PM with the link to that thread. Same for wheel/tire size questions. Simply having stickies isn't cutting it.

 

I understand the crying about FE. I'm on my second Tundra, I knew before buying the first one that the truck would pass anything but a gas station. I have buddies with the Big 3 and we all get about the same FE. I just love that my Transmission didn't fail at 100k (Ferd), my Active Fuel Management didn't require my upper engine/valve train to be rebuilt at 90k (Cheby) or my engine just fully shit the bed, dropping a valve into a piston pulling out into traffic at 75k (Doge). I can list and cite all the common malfunctions I see as a mechanic on the Big 3 and their "MOAR BETTER" FE than everyone else including themselves is Horse $#!+. I bought a Tundra (twice) because I don't have time to deal with the all BS malfunctions on my personal DD that render it out of service. I'll gladly take my 14 MPG average (mostly city) for my Big Happy Moose that likes to Eat Ass and Get Gas (that might be backwards). Simply stated Tundra starts, runs, works, plays and is HUNGRY and Happy. Don't like the Fuel Economy buy a Prius, it's not like the FE numbers aren't posted on the window when you buy the truck or anything.

 

I've calculated it. Its within .2mpg. I suspect it's the larger tires your running. Most dont factor in the different circumference when determining FE.

 

I heard if you add Marvel Mystery Oil, you can get up to 30 MPG!! Plus increased performance!! (more sarcasm) Please don't do it. Marvel Mystery Oil is 70% Naphthenic Hydrocarbons. 29% Mineral Spirits and may screw up your O2 sensors.

 

I totally agree with you here. I kind response and a link to the thread is probably the best option. I can say why I like TUNDRAS.com over several other forums is the responses and general good attitude. A lot of the other forums usually have wise ass responses, are critical, and almost always just say "Use the Search Function."

Gas mileage threads will always be there. If they are killing you or causing pain in any way, just scroll past them. You are not going to get rid of them.

 

Not sure why everyone is complaining about MPG's. They just need one of these.
