I took off my front bumper today in order to install a new off road one. I need to take off my tow hooks as well to use the mounts, I used a breaking bar to loosen up one bolt on the first hook but it seemed to just spin after a few turns. The other bolt barely budged and the 2nd tow hook bolt ended up snapping in half while I was unscrewing it.... wth am I supposed to do to get these things off

The internal nut that’s welded to the frame broke.

A cutting torch would work for this issue.

Next time you need to do some work on the truck, start spraying any of the bolts with PB blaster or something similar a few days in advance. Not saying it’s the cure-all but it gives you a better chance. Do you live in a state where they salt the roads?

    No, no salting in Texas.
Also are you saying I should use a cutting torch to cut the bolts off?

Yes. You may have to drill out the bolts that snapped.

Would make sense that there are welded frame nuts for the tow hooks too. Didn't think about that. Crazy for a 15 to have messed up frame nuts like that. My 14 spent most of it's "life" in ND with an unforgiving climate and the hook bolts backed out without a breaker. :monocle:

Same thing happened on one of my front swaybar bolts. The nut welded to the frame broke free and now it just spins with no way to get a wrench or socket on it.

Well off to the body shop tomorrow, hopefully they can get the bolts out and tow hooks off. Starting to think someone got trigger happy when tightening the bolts originally.
