While you're at it please let people know majority of your wait time was because we did not have your ECU ID to begin with. Because you try to make it sound like we just haven't done anything in your case.

How about just send the kit back and all refund you. I'm really getting tired of it. You do nothing but complain while out right ignoring our posts. It's as if the reason WHY we haven't updated people doesn't matter to you at all.


You legitimately complain more than anyone, ever, all the while never saying oh yeah by the way I'm a unique case because we didn't have the ID, had to jump through hoops, and if I recall correctly buy a ECU, just to get yours supported, which takes time. All the while you were complaining the entire time through that ordeal too.

Send it back, I'm done.

 

I love it. I have conversations with rental home tenants like this frequently. Tell them to move out and heres you deposit back. Glad to hear I'm not the only one.

 

I generally have a high tolerance for this stuff... but I'm just done with it at this point. I'm trying to get all the ECUs patched while keeping people in the loop. I do appreciate everyone who is waiting patiently and understands the process involved with getting the ECUs patched.


All of this development, features, future features, custom tuning... we are doing for no additional cost on an already very cheap tune option. If you can't give us some time to actually write the features for your ECU...I don't know what to say anymore.

Take what time you need Mat. Getting it right is the main thing, however long it takes. So far, you're doing it right, and I know it'll be worth the wait. Illegitimi non carborundum.

 

Mat, take the high road and keep it professional. You shouldn't be hounded and harassed, but you know it doesn't matter if you tell people to just take a refund. You didn't ask for my advice, but I'll give it anyway. Just post a status on the original post, maybe for each ecu or something, and when people ask we can point them there.


I've spoken with Mat on the phone a few times, guys. Just my 2 cents here, but he is a super nice guy and completely genuine. I get a little impatient for all of the features to be completed too, but sit back patiently waiting for the most part. I just figured I'd say something so you all might have a little trust in where you have spent your hard earned money. It's my opinion that Mat is constantly working on our tundras and tacomas, pretty much every day. I love how he gets mad and says he won't post on Saturday or Sunday, but inevitably, he is posting on a Sunday morning, probably working! So yeah, I believe him to be trustworthy, a hard worker and intent on what he is doing. I'm sure he is ready to have it all completed too.

 

Yep. He loves the platform and community. Things just take time to develop, test and roll out.

I dont think mat has taken a day off in nearly 3 years since he started working on the tacoma. He's done amazing things in a very short amount of time considering he's had to unpack and reverse engineer EVERYTHING. People tend to underestimate the colossal amount of work he’s put into the Toyota ecosystem (tacoma and tundra). Just a couple years ago there was NOTHING now look where we are.

 

Ok so for the superchargered ovtuned guys, with bully dog tune, I assume it gets wiped out. What are you guys noticing at first? I don’t want to bother Mat with common faqs. I know the tune might not be ready for tundras to Sedona nbd. I live in AZ will summer take a toll on my tune. I don’t tow often but some days I do load the girl up lol. She’s superchargered and geared 5.29.

 

You will either return your truck to the stock tune, or flash over the BD tune. Keep in mind if you do flash over the BD tune your BD simply becomes a paperweight as it will forever think it is married to your truck. First impressions of the OV S/C Tune...you will be down on power and throttle response will be slowed. This is because they send the Base S/C tune out in a very safe state of tune. After you do a set of log's and get your first revision the power will be 90% back to what you had. You will then do some more logs and get another revision getting you even more. You will continue to repeat this procedure until you are happy with the way the truck drives and Matt is happy with the way your trucks tune data look. From the very start the truck will shift better with the OVTune and only get better as you communicate with Matt any concerns/desires you may have regarding Transmission tune. S Mode Gear lock is an awsome usefull feature, as is having a second Towing specific tune available on the fly with the press of the tow/haul button.

Many of us have reviewed the tune throughout the process in this thread at various stages from start to near completion. Mine is virtually dialed in and 100% complete after a half a dozen sets of logs and revisions.

As for summer heat taking a toll on your tune...Stock...BD...OVTune...will all respond the same to some extent...as your Intake Air Temps go up the ECU will pull timing and power goes down a bit.

 

If I flash over the BD with the OV, can I then re flash the BD back over the OV ( between revisions, during wait periods, etc) without flashing to a stock tune (which I don't have)?

 

Are you Supercharged? From what I gather the N/A base tunes are not neutered and sent out overly safe like the ones for the S/C guys so you would really have no need to revert back to the BD.

To answer your question...I honestly have no idea, I would not assume it(BD Tuner) would still work. To be safe simply revert back to stock using the Bully Dog Tuner(It is stored in its memory)and then install the OVTune. I did it this way so my BD would not be a paperweight afterward. I had a big trip pulling the toyhauler planned before I got my first revision back. I re-loaded the BD tune prior to the trip as I needed fullpower towing 9K+ #'s in the Black Hills. MY first revision was waiting in my inbox when I got back. Again I reverted back to stock with the BD and reinstalled the OVtune and have never felt the need to do so again.

Flashing directly over the BD tune is your call...The OVTune will install with no issues as I know of guys who have installed it over the BD tune...as for what, if anything the BD Tuner will or wont do afterwards I have no idea.

Matt send's you a factory N/A stock tune for your ECU as well as your first Base SC tunewhen you first start the process.

 

I am SC'd which is why I was curious. I didn't know that a stock tune was stored in the BD (dealer installed the SC +tune). I appreciate the detailed information, as I'm hoping to go through this process and want to best prepare for waiting... at least be ready to flash back and forth if I needed full power as you did to tow. I personally like the BD tune, but it does have shortcomings that OV seems to resolve and improve. I also need a laptop to do this. So, any recommendations? I use a tablet and a desktop at home so nothing I have will work.

 

I'm no computer expert as such will leave that advice to others....Although any good name brand Windows 10 laptop new/used would do the job for you.

As far as needing to go back and forth between tunes you probably wont need to before getting your first revision. Load the initial tune and then do your logging and send them off to Matt right away. The base OVTune SC file still had most of the trucks power and worked well enough for me towing my boats and stuff around locally...I was just being overly cautious for that first long(2500mile) trip at elevation towing right at the trucks max capacity.

 

Are we getting close to a easily installed tune from OVT, one that doesn't require a laptop?

 

There are handheld devices in the planning where I assume that you'd DL a file via your desktop, load it to the HH and flash it from there. I'm not real sure as I'm not keeping up on that information. I have a laptop.

 

this is a very good explanation for BD to OVTune. my personal experience is similar with the base tune, feels slightly down on power, throttle response a little less than BD 91 tune, part throttle boost/pull feels less responsive, but overall drive-ability is perhaps the same or slightly better. i like the gear lock in S mode. mine is slightly different since i also have IPT shift kit valve body in my trans.

i sent in my 1st let of logs and really looking forward to rev1 of the tune. everyone pretty much says the same, base tune is safe, follow on tunes get incrementally better.

In the near future I do want to do a stock TRD tune vs Base OVtune vs Rev 1 OVtune Dyno comparison as well. This tune is not about those #'s but i for one like to know what i'm putting down at the wheels

edit: also BD is not a complete paperweight. i still use it for gauges, works fine

Woohoo! Guys we are next! Looks like Mat is releasing his final tune for the Tacoma by the end of the month. I suspect the tundra will get whipped into shape shortly after.

This post is just a friendly reminder that I am waiting on a base tune for 4:88 gears and 37s as per your post last week. I dont want you to get triggered, I am just following your instructions to email you every 48 hrs if I dont get a response.

I will be buttoning up the truck this weekend and I need to install this base tune before I fire it up. Thank you Mat.

I'm not "triggered." I'm annoyed that people want me to give them updates + try to set the features at the same time. It's not possible.

I gave you an update to your specification on Feb 12th, and now you need a new one again.
If there is anything else you need in your base tune, let me know now please.

 

Well to be clear, I have not requested an update. I have requested a proper base tune. Look man, if you would be a little more clear about options then you would save yourself a lot of headaches.

Until I asked you in this thread, I had no idea that I needed a different base tune for headers. I also had no idea I needed a different base tune for gears until I saw a post. ANNND I also did not know that red line was something you changed until I read this thread.

You know, when someone pays you $500 and you set him up with ECU and the software, BEFORE you send a base tune you should ask these questions and then you will know to send the PROPER base tune.

Also, the original reason I paid for your product was to remove the throttle limits in 4wd which you confirmed in this thread that you were able to do. I have asked you multiple times over many months if you corrected this for me and I still have not received an answer.

Are the throttle limits in 4wd removed on the base tune you just sent me??

One more thing, we are the customer Mat. You are not doing us a favor by blessing us with your time and attention. We have paid you good money for your product and we only ask that you deliver on the promises that YOU made for your product and service. I am trying to be patient with you, but I do not appreciate the double speak and terrible communication I am receiving from your company.

 

Okay we sent you a proper base tune based on what we were capable of doing when it was first sent.
The gear and tire change combo we literally JUST found, so it's not like we did not send you a proper tune beforehand. Just like Gearlock via S, and Directshift. We just made these features. Base tunes for gear changes and tire changes were not even a thing 2 weeks ago.

I changed the rev limit to 6000 based on your request, which I emailed you.
4WD limits have been removed since the very first file you requested.

Your "base" tunes have been changing based on things that we literally JUST get done, or parts you are adding.

What doublespeak? I've been as clear as can be. Go read my posts. I said back in January, we will be emailing out necessary files, updates as required, and after that point we will temporarily stop sending updates so we can prepare everything for everyones ECUs.
That never happened, because...I guess people don't ready or something. Because I sure sent it in the email for update files.
You're post comes off like we haven't been giving you the options you need, when you are getting options that we literally just figured out a few days ago...and you're speaking like we have been holding this from you the whole time?


So lets get to facts.
1. When we sent you the first files, You didn't have headers. - tunes were proper at that time.
2. When you got headers, you requested an update, and rev limit changed - sent you that, tune was proper.
3. We JUST...literally JUST found gear and tire code in the ECU. Now you're requesting that, which I've sent you. And you have been requesting it every 48 hours since we talked about it. NOWHERE did we say when we would release this to everyone. Nowhere. But now you require it right now.
4. When you did get the headers installed, I said I would review your logs and make an update based on them. I don't know where you got the idea that you REQUIRE a base tune for your headers, but that information didn't come from me.



I'm not "blessing you guys" with my attention. I'm trying to get this stuff done. Most people understand and are waiting for a fully featured file for their ECU. And a very select few of you are fighting us every step of the way.



Stop making this difficult for us and everything goes smoothly.

If you see something on here that is a latest development, or something we are working on, you are NOT entitled to it until we are crystal clear that it works perfectly. We let everyone know what we are working on AS WE WORK ON IT. (that's for everyone)

 

Thank you for answering my question about the 4wd throttle limits. Why couldnt you have just told me that months ago? If you had, I wouldn't have kept asking you.

I had no idea you discovered how to correct for gears/tires recently. But how about letting us know when that became an option and asking us if we need it?

You know, your product needs to have the proper parameters for our truck because it can cause damage to the engine if it is not correct. So when I install headers, I decided to be smart and ask you if I need a different tune. I'm glad I did because otherwise I would have been driving around in a lean condition. If I make a change to my truck which is going to affect the health of my engine because of your product you have an OBLIGATION to do one of two things, tell me to remove the tune or send me an update to keep my engine safe.

Look man, in the end you have a good product. The problem is we have to fight tooth and nail to get answers and simple updates out of you. And please stop arguing with your customers. Its not very professional.

 

I put it into your tune based on your request. I did not know you also need to be told it's in your tune, you asked for it.

My first post talking about us finding the tire / gear combo size for these ECUs with the help of Tacoma guys was Feb 18th. Think critically here. What good reason would I have to have this setting and hold it from you guys this entire time. That just doesn't make sense.


I don't think you have any idea what you're talking about, and I don't know where you got this information that you will run lean with headers with our base tunes. ALL stock Fueling / safety, EGT, temp parameters, etc are still in place. Who told you that you could be running around on a lean condition? I didn't.
Do you know how many people put long tubes on the stock tune and have no problems ever?

It sounds to me like you're speaking with someone else on the back end and they are giving you WRONG info.


Anyways, I understand some of this confusion can be coming from this forum and my posts. I Post ACTIVE development here. Not "FINISHED" development. So if you are confused because of this I apologize. But if you want accurate info just ASK ME.

 

I need YOU to think critically here. You say on one hand hand this thread is not meant to used for communication on your product, and then you turn around and tell me to refer to your post in this thread that has NINETY-SIX PAGES. Come on man, I cant keep up on this thread.

JBA told me to be careful with aftermarket tunes as they can cause a lean condition with their LT headers. So I asked you and YOU said yes, I can send you a different base tune. I have no idea what is different in your base tune for LT headers, but its clear that you do something different.

I would absolutely come to you for the "right info" only problem is I ask you questions and I get ignored unless I ask many many times and then when you do answer you get all pissed off.

Look man, I dont need to keep arguing with you. After all these angry posts and finger pointing, look what I got? I got the 87 and 91 base tunes that I needed with options for headers, gears/tires, redline, and 4wd throttle. It took all of 10 min for you to send those to me once I became a squeaky wheel.

Maybe next time, just send the customer what he needs and move on with your day?

I am looking forward to the gear lock stuff. TELL ME WHEN IT IS OK TO SEND DATA LOGS PLEASE

It's NOT meant to communicate individual customer requests or issues. Like I've said probably 50 times in this thread I don't even know who you guys are based on user names.




So please, for everyone reading, I am sorry for the thread confusion.

There are NO UPDATES Until we have ALL FEATURES Ready for EVERY ECU ID. THIS CAN TAKE ANYWHERE FROM 4-8 WEEKS

The ONLY people who may receive updates beforehand are trucks with SUPERCHARGERS, or people waiting for an INITIAL FILE.
