I ordered just before the post in here announcing they are back in stock. I got lucky and believe I was one of the first to order in this batch. Brian did say his machinist is not the most reliable as far as delivery dates

This is both good and bad news. Good because I know I should get an email, and bad because I haven't yet. :(

$117 and $17 for socket... seams a bit pricey.

but if it works for you.... why not

I have changed my oil 3 times, first one was the worst (from dealer). everything was way OVERTORQUED....

I just snug the plugs and filter, and filter cap. much better...and no leaks. (9,000 miles oil change)

I don't know. I'm not too comfortable doing business with an outfit that is AWOL much of the time (Jowett). Not sure of the attention to quality or whether they will be there if I need to contact them.

Well, I ordered the jowett, got an order confirmation, and see the charge on my card statement. No shipping notification though. I emailed him to see if i can get one. Sure hope he's not charging for orders before he ships them. Not q good sign when that is being done without disclosing it up front.:monocle:

Toyota Care ran out and I did my first oil change today. It went really smoothly using all of the help I have found on the forums. Again, the old age argument against dealership oil changes rang true. When I went to take the skid plate off, the three 10mm screws up front were completely missing! In addition, the oil filter canister was torqued so bad, I had to use a breaker bar and brace my feet against the garage! Insane. I am going to call the dealership about the missing screws, load up the skid plate in the back, take it back to them and make them install it with ALL the screws/bolts this time.

Welllllllllllllllllllllllll, my Jowett is 3 years old, is a beautiful piece of fabricated aluminum and has performed flawlessly for 45,000 miles and 4 oil changes.

I did get an email response that he is planning to ship next week and extras offered for the delay. I declined the freebies as that wasn't my intent with reaching out. I just wanted a shipping confirmation because I had been charged. If the new shipping promise falls through I might be going elsewhere and seeking a refund.
I'd love to support a small business, and this is the best design I've seen, but I am cynic too.

Am I the only one that is skipping the free oil changes? I know it’s money down the drain, however I just feel much more confident in myself doing it, I even have lifetime oil changes at the dealership I bought it from. I am honestly just sick and tired of dealing with dealerships in general. Paying for my own Pennzoil ultra platinum and a trd oil filter feels better than dealing w the service advisors complaining about my mods and this isn’t Toyota specs bla bla bla. I definitely would bring it in for warranty purposes, but I actually find joy in doing the maintenance. Unfortunately previous vehicles have burned me out going to dealerships, even for simple things like an oil change.

I’m bout 1000 miles away from next oil change and before I noticed this post I bought the aluminum Toyota filter housing, definitely won’t be as fast to change as the jowett but at least I’m getting rid of the plastic crap. The last oil change I took a gatoraid bottle and drilled a hole in the cap w a step bit and attached the little plastic drain thing the filters come with and just pushed it up and filled the Gatorade bottle. Then removed filter housing. It was honestly really easy and I didn’t have to deal w hoses etc to clean up

Since you didnt get the jowett, invest in a fumoto and you will never need to remove the drain plug again.

    No you're not.

In the last 4 years I have bought 4 new-from-the-dealer (all the same dealer) Toyotas. I told them each time I was doing the paperwork "you can save the discussion. I AM NOT bringing my car/truck back here. I do my own maintenance." They still blow me up with phone calls (3rd party solicitors), e-mails and stupid high-speed-offset-printing notices in the snail mail. Coo coo.

I LOVE the peace of mind that comes from knowing 1,000,000% that it was done RIGHT!!!!!

Say it loud..............and say it proud "I DO MY OWN OIL CHANGES!!!!!!"

A while back I had a friend that was the master tech at a Honda dealership, this was the only time I trusted an oil change etc bc I knew he was doing it the way I would and took care and pride in his work. Unfortunately the way the system is in place the way these mechanics get paid they have to rush everything out the door. On top of that most lube mechanics are not as well trained and are usually made to get vehicles in and out as fast as possible. I think even if a young person gets in to a dealership as a lube tech to start out and has interest and desire to do things right, the dealership is just so focused on getting the oil changed as cheap as possible in hopes for add ons like cabin air filters, wiper blades, fuel injection cleaning, air filters, and whatever else the service advisors can try to up sell. This is exactly why I do not like dealing with dealerships. I know they have to make money, but iv seen so many prey on people that aren’t automotive savvy and it really bothers me when I see it happen. I know there are more honest dealerships out there and even if I was visiting one, my mindset is “they are out to screw me” I will try and do the maintenance on our vehicles as long as my body allows me. My parents are getting older and live quite a long ways away and I hate hearing how repairmen etc are getting over on them. My dad just can’t do handy work like he used to. We all have jobs and we all skimp at times we all have bad days and good days, from the lube tech over tightening the oil filter housing to the dr that made a mistake during surgery, no one is perfect. Just seems more and more people don’t take pride in their work.

Seems about right to me. I designed (and patented) a spin-on oil filter adaptor kit for the Kawasaki Concours and retail was about $125.00. Fabrication was similar, hogged out of billet 6061-T6 aluminum. The are a lot of chips on the floor when you machine a cup-shaped device like the Jowett (or my adaptor).

Isn't the aluminum one about $100 also? Not a bad price for a very well made product in my opinion

I paid $20.45 on Amazon with my points came out to $3.45 for the Toyota aluminum one.

Haven't tried it yet, but I do want to. Still have to go thru the oil I bought with Rotella and Pennzoil rebates. It is API SN Plus rated so I would think that it is a quality oil to use.
