Ski rack for sliding cover

Used some Thule tracks, elevator bolts ground down to fit track, Amazon cross bars made to fit under sliding cover mount and Ebay, 6 ski racks.
I didn’t want to put the mounts under the cover mount so I cut off the lower “Z” part and that’s where the Thule track comes in. I used some 1/2” large washers between the mount and the track to take up a little space from the square part of the elevator bolt at the end of the threads and a washer and locks washer over the mount and some thumb screws that I got from where I work.
The cover slides as intended and it clears the lock covers underneath the racks. It’s easy to remover and install by loosening the thumb screws and sliding out of the track.
All in all, I’m in this rack for about $200.

Ok I have seen people use similar rack systems here in CO and have to ask, why don't you put the skis in the bed of the truck?

 

In my case, I have 3 people and myself and we take a week long ski trip and we take all of our luggage, gear bags and provisions with us. Skis take up a crap ton of room that we need for those items listed above so this saves us that room.
In addition, if the skis are left in the bed, they could slide around and dull the edges by the roughness of the bed liner.

Sweet setup! What size skis are you running and why not go over cab? They must come pretty close to the rear window or stick out over the tailgate? I have an old pair of 210s I like taking out sometimes and there’s no way those telephone poles will fit without going over cab.

I didn’t want to have to get up and stand on the door sills to reach the skis and an over cab rack’s cost would be a lot more.
Longest ski we will have are 170’s So hitting the back window won’t happen. It may hang over the tailgate which to me is on.
