What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Bypass for the air system? I was under the impression that an electric bypass was all that was needed the rest of the system could stay in place.

 

City camping? Sounds like you need a dog, some strobe lights, and if your sensibilities allow, some ballistics.

 

I think it's an electric bypass as well as some physical plugs to block the air tubes on the headers. Likely for vacuum reasons. I'm just guessing. I did look up the kit a few months back and would like to eventually buy it so I can run the older cheaper long tube headers. Still not completely sure it would even be possible. But it would be nice to save a couple 100 bucks haha

 

Got the strobe lights covered, but the rest... you're right.

 

According to dirty deeds the older version of the jba headers fit the vvti engines. The 6010 jba headers are listed for the 04 and older tundra 4.7.

My husky would just lick anybody trying to steal my stuff or hurt me. My border, black lab, blue healer mix is super protective. She takes five minutes to re-warm herself to family that she sees a couple times a month. One time I came home early from work and she was still sleeping. I guess she woke up when I closed the door to the house and if there was a breath between sleep and growling/rabid barking I didn't notice it. As soon as she saw me she coward and realized what she did. I actually felt sorry for her haha.

But she's actually super gentle. At least with her people. She even puts up with my 2yo. He just loves her.

 

Wow. Yeah, dogs are amazing creatures. I didn't grow up with pets, though. So even though I'm coming around, I've never been much of an animal person like seemingly everyone. A dog would likely love the adventure which comes with living on the road.

 

Dogs love whatever you love. That's why dogs are great. Unless they are huskys and then they love what they love and you better love it too... Or else!

Has anyone repaired any cracked windshields? Mom told me that a dump truck passed and hit a bump. It dropped two rocks on her windshield resulting in a small crack, and a small chip.

Crack is probably 3MM by 2MM
Chip is probably 1MM all the way round.

I'd rather not replace the windshield over something so small.

 

I've done it. I think I used a 3M kit and it worked well enough. Might as well try it first since the kits are cheap.

 

Same. I used a rain x kit. The chip hasn't spread so I guess it worked.

 

same x3. I've used a kit & it got the job done. not perfect, could still see it hard as I tried.
In contrast, I had a pro fix a chip on a custom cut windscreen, that split 6 months later.
So I'm of the cheap kit DIY or replace it camp. Glass coverage is so cheap on insurance - most people opt for it & forget they have it.
Verify if she has glass coverage.

I have glass coverage on my Tundra, and have a small chip. Gonna just leave it until it gets bad enough to replace.

 

I've had Safelite repair small chips and cracks back when I had a RAV4 (and had them replace my whole Tundra windshield). They are nationwide and highly professional! Even if you can't get it done for free through the glass coverage, I would get a quote from them, might be doable cost-wise. The windshield is often the first barrier between you and road debris, so I wouldn't necessarily cheap out on making it structurally safe.

 

Couple of mechanical observations:

1) FSM is wrong on bracket install. I knew this already from another Tundra site commenter. FSM needs to be reversed from its picture if you are using that as a guide. This was not part of todays problem.

2) Energy Suspension D-Bushing is visibly smaller. This does not allow the D-Bushing Bracket to ‘clamp’ down on the bushing like it would with a larger one. The combination of smaller bushing and its ‘squishy’ composition results in the side to side movement and flexing of the bushing. Poor design on D-Bushing!
The other bushings seemed proper sized when installed last week. They had to be pressed in.


Driving Observations:

1) An interesting combination of firmness back with old plastic D-Bushing with some forgiveness coming from the other new bushings. The Old D- Bushing has firmed up the steering nicely. Its not as firm as before, but its very close. The Energy Suspension D-Bushing made it too squishy.

Conclusion: I am much happier with the steering feel now. I’ll get some more driving under my belt and make a final decision at a later time. Next time, if I ever had to do it again, I’d go with hard plastic type bushings. Not sure what brand, but not these Energy Suspensions.

 

Iirc, I bought a windshield chip/crack repair kit for around $33?

It was good for 1 repair. Did a good job. Tried to move over to another chip and the suction device thingy was no longer usable (by design). My windshield was sand blasted anyways from years of Island living, so I went ahead and had it replaced for $290 through Safelite right in my driveway. Vision is much better driving into the sun now.

 

Having the windshield out allowed me to identify a few potential leak areas where the clips gaskets where worn out similar to the front cowl leaky gaskets.

 

Yup, that's him. He had a buddy with almost the same exact truck but in white, can't recall the name of the white one.

 

Everyone worried about state laws, its California! You could do it but its definitely not legal here, the question of getting pulled over for it really depends on the cop. Not much different risk factor than having dark window tint.

Those wind visors are very nice. Did you get the lighter version? I like how they are barely noticeable on the truck. They blend right in with the tint on my truck. How much did those mats set you back?

 

the mats were around 100. and yes these are the lighter vents.

Placed an order for White Knuckle sliders! 6-8 weeks until they ship out to Seattle

 

Installed rear DuroBumps bump stops so now we have the complete set of front and rears. Going to do some testing tonight and possibly tomorrow. I promise we are hurrying to get these done. Our schedules are busy and DuroBumps went through a big move recently. Soon guys!
