I'm guessing this has alot to do with where one lives. I don't see millennials spending that kind of money on trucks, but I do see them spending that (and more) on Tesla 3s. I see both sides of this though. I'm a GenXer, but my Mom was the oldest of 6 and her youngest sister is 12 years younger, so I have some cousins that I'm fairly close to that are dead smack in the middle of milleniamania. They are good "kids" (in their late 20s to early 30s), have good jobs and are pretty responsible people....but they were CODDLED to no end by their mother growing up (bubble-wrapped against all negativity compounded by an ugly divorce when they were both elementary age). I watched it happen. It hamstrung them emotionally. They are perfectly capable of doing adult things like their age would suggest both have very responsible jobs, (one of them, you'd be shocked what he does...and he does it well), but their emotional maturity and ability to deal with adversity in their personal lives was greatly negatively effected by the culture we raised children in starting in the early 90s.

I guess my point is I understand the frustration of dealing with the "millennial mentality" (I'm very familiar with it in IT), but I know it's not a matter of broken people, it's a broken system that hopefully the pendulum has swung back and kids now are being raised differently (and fortunately I work with enough millennials to know they aren't ALL like that). I know I had my kids later in life (not yet in HS), but I saw enough of the mistakes some of the younger boomers/older genXers made with raising their kid's that we are actively working against that with our kids. We'll see....everyone thinks they are doing it the right way when they are doing it... :)

On a different but related topic, I think the "millennial problem" was a by-product cable television (or maybe more accurately the "information age."). Seriously. Prior to cable television all news was primarily local. You only heard about MAJOR events that weren't local to you before cable news. After cable news came along, they started reporting every heinous crime across the country and it scared people into thinking their kids were in mortal danger at every turn, despite the fact their kids were safer than any kids who had ever lived in civilization. It started the whole bubble-wrapping helicopter parenting. On top of that the explosion in people going to college also meant more parents than ever had taken a a few psych courses and people got obsessed with "feelings." While I recognize the value in psychology and acknowledge psychoanalysis as a useful tool in dealing with emotional trauma, the treating of EVERY emotional setback as "trauma" has done society no favors...

Thanks to @theblurry1 I have something to do other than feather dusting my engine bay. Only bummer on doing the door checks is my door panels will need removing for the 7th time. The checks are mounted from inside the door cavity.

Anyone have an actual picture of a 1st Gen Tundra check? For studying purposes ahead of time, I’d like to see the actual design before taking another door panel off again!

    Whoa!

29° this morning and the truck start up was hair triggered. Didn’t time it, but it was half the time as yesterday!

Only thing different this winter versus last winter is the SeaFoam Engine Spray Treatment via the throttle body. Could this top end cleaning result in quicker starts?

I’d like to see a pic of the backside of one of these from Tundra 1st Gen.

I’m not in a hurry to do mine now that I realize the door panels need removing. Might wait and do some new speakers at the same time panels are off?

Looks doable. Maybe I can score some of these from a donor truck and experiment on them ahead of time before wrecking mine up? The cost savings would be huge by refurbishment.

@Isaami can add this to the list of the other items requested.

I like her. I watched her video of the 1st Gen front wheel bearing replacement last year. Or maybe it was another lady that looked just like her? The truck was a rust bucket. Front wheel dust shields were so rusted and flapping like aluminum foil. :bananadead:

I really might put my truck up for sale after some cleaning and paint work just to see if anybody thinks it's worth what I think it's worth. Not that I really want/need to sell it, but it would be interesting to see if anybody bites. I think it was a semi famous diesel guy I used to do work for once said "everything's for sale".

Everything I own is for sale for the right price... I've had several people ask me what I'd sell my Tundra for recently and I told them $20K. Yep, I'm aware that price is pretty "schtuuupid", but that is what it would take for me to part with it. Even at that...I try and think what I'd replace it with for $20K and I can't think of a single damn $20K vehicle I would replace it with, so I'm not even 100% sure I'd let it go for that if it came right down to it....:monocle:

Changed the fluid in the diffs--not sure that had ever been done at 130k! Definitely tells me I need to do the transmission and xfer case as well. Also did a thing :)

AMP doesn't make a kit for the first gens, but the 2007-2019 kit is very close. Right now I just have it shimmed with washers to get the angle right, but Karma is helping me brainstorm some adapter mounts that will be much more solid. Obviously, I need to work on alignment just a bit as well, given the delay in retraction of the rear portion of the board. I'll post the write-up, but it will be incomplete until I get the new mounts fabbed up. For now, this will keep me from dragging across the new leather that goes in next week!

Next big decision is re-gearing and limited slip versus long tube headers and full exhaust :)

Most things are for sale at the right price. Some things just can’t be replaced or have sentimental value that isn’t tangible.

Thankfully Im on the edge of it and live close to where all the fracking is going down, the Cline shale as they call it. I have to travel to Midland/Odessa occasionally and its one of the nastiest places I have ever seen. It makes me sick seeing all these idiots just throw money around. The only benefit that Ive reaped is that my homes value went up over 40k in only 6 years.
