Losing coolant

Hello everyone.
I have a 2008 Tundra SR5 with a 5.7L V8. I have been losing coolant . It takes a few weeks go drain out but there is nothing visible under the truck. Friend told me it might be leaking through the head gasket .Has anyone encountered this before ? Thank any and all help.

 

if it's leaking through the head, you'll either get white smoke in your exhaust (enough so that you'd notice) or your oil will look like milkshake depending on whether it's leaking into the cylinder or water jacket. (or both) If none of the above... read below.

head to advanced, and take advantage of their tool rentals and i'd look for a coolant pressure test so that you can pressurize with the engine off... you may possibly be able to hear it leaking and look for it. Failing that, get a leakdown tester and check each cylinder for leakdown - when you get the results from that, post them back here and we can help you figure out next steps.

Other random thoughts... any moisture inside the truck? an ex of mine had a ford that had a coolant leak inside the car for the heater... that sucked.

 

My son has an '07. Had the same problem. I found the leak in the radiator on the seam between the core and the top plastic tank. Such a small leak that the water evaporates/boils off before there are any tell-tale drips on the ground. He hasn't replaced the radiator yet, just keeps topping it off, since the loss is so gradual. But my point is, I think you'll find the leak if you look closely. Dried reddish deposits/stains are the evidence (if you're using that color antifreeze). I think a small external leak is more likely than a head gasket leak.

Turns out it was the water pump. Doesn't leak all the time but as soon as you let the truck run for a few minutes and shut it off it drips right out . Thanks again.

Haha....so true! It's a common leaking point in about every vehicle I've ever seen.
