What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

I really need to start a build thread, but on Saturday I started suspension upgrades with 5160 in the back....SPC UCAs are sitting in the shop waiting for 6112 from Darren at Boss4x4!

 

How do you guys clean your engine bay? I was ganna take the battery out and just spray it down and let it dry but I dont know how much risk is involved. Alot of people say dont get it wet and some just spray it with a hose battery in and everything.

Plz let me know how you choose to set the SPC UCAs. I think I set mine wrong or something

 

I like to gently rinse, spray simple green, drink 3/4 of a beer and then wash it down.

I have seen several different posts about suspension upgrades. I have noticed a slight sag in the back end. Very little, but I have been using my truck as a truck. Hauling rock, and other yard items.

Perhaps a retrofit/upgrade is in order for my truck, but that's looks like a job. Definitely a weekend project, but still I worry. I need my truck to commute to work. The suspension bits, and pieces are new territory for me.

When I had a anti-freeze leak/radiator leak I repaired all the leaks, then pressure washed the inside of the hood and was delicately pressure washing everything else.

Love mine. 6112 in front 5160 in rear.

 

I almost went 6112 and 5160. But man the 5100s will get me by for now. Eventually I’ll probably end up with kings or icons.

 

Nothing wrong with 5100's. I jumped on the 6112/5160 when they first became available, before the prices went up. I like the bling.

What do you have the front set to? I read Bilstein doesn't advise AC and RC to go above 1 inch which is crazy to me but DC can go as high as they go

 

They work great for me. on & off-road

Currently the front is set to 1". I don't know Bilstein's reasoning. I had 2" lift springs on my 2001 with no issues.

 

No boots to cover that shock? Hmm

Don’t spray your starter!

Cleaning the engine? I’d just use a bucket of water with degreaser solution in it. Start wiping with a damp rag or sponge until the bay is complete. Painstaking work and you may need to break it up in stages depending on prior condition, but eventually you’ll get to feather dusting status.

 

That's the way they come. I've been looking at some options.

 

Someone previously brought this up and another member pointed out that even the super expensive shocks don't come with boots. Most felt they aren't necessary.

 

What about damage pitting on the shaft and the washers/fluid seeping around pitting?

You shouldn't get any pitting on a shock regardless of having a boot. If you do it was a crappy plating.

I tossed the boots for my 5100s when I installed them. 2 years later they're still fine. Here in the rust belt the boots tend to hold crud and destroy the seals and shock body from moisture.

 

You toss your CV boots too?

Mine went bad years ago and worked fine until replacement. Even slung some grease around on critical areas of the frame.

 

Will do. What's making you think something is wrong? After you installed yours, did you take it in for an actual alignment?

 

Speaking of SPC control arms. I cleaned up mine today, greased the upper ball joints, and greased my drive shaft.
