V6 reliability

Found a 2006 v6 tundra but know nothing about them are they good or stay away looking for a road truck it is 2 wheel drive automatic. It has 96000 miles on it

 

My 1997 T-100 has the 3.4L V6 in it and with 263,000 miles performs like it was brand new.

 

My Father-In-Law has an '06 with the v6 and has 180k miles with no problems. He's happy with his and the performance though MPGs aren't much better than the 8 cylinder...

Pretty sure the 05-06 v6 has as much horsepower as the 00-04 8's. Give it a test drive, I think you'll find it does pretty good...

 

Early 4.0 Toyota engines are prone to head gasket failure, doesn’t necessarily mean it will happen to ever one but it’s a big enough deal that they changed the head gasket design.

 

If the price is right and you can tell it's been maintained, rather than whipped and clipped, go for it. Just don't expect it to pull like a Hemi...it's a V6.

 

I am the second owner of 02' Tundra V6. 309K miles
Only issue we have had with it was the original transmission toyota produced was just a little too short. Over time (about 80k miles) where the transmission meets the driveshaft was worn down ("wollered" out)

Toyota realized this was an issue, redesigned, and fixed it.

I think this only affected the 5TB... vin numbers.

 

Similar HP, much less torque.
