I'm having a local off road shop install my new SSO Slimline Hybrid Bumper on my 2020, along with a Warn Zeon Platinum 10-S winch. SSO's site states that the relocation kit is required for the winch (part # 89970). I guess the purpose of this relocation kit is that it makes the on/off switch for the winch more accessible?

So the offroad shop told me today that the way the SSO bumper is designed, the relocation kit sits on the left (passenger) side of the winch, which means the only way to access it is to remove the plastic cover on the top right (driver) side of the Tundra bumper (access hole for the TSS wiring harness), snake your hand down and behind the bumper and then turn the switch on or off. Surely there's a better system than this.

I talked to them about wiring a remote switch elsewhere, where it's more easily accessible, however their concern was that it may void the warranty on the winch, or at least on the relocation bracket. Anyone have any experience with this?

On the photo below, the left arrow points to the approximate location of the switch, and the right arrow is the access hole that I have to go through to get to it.

I'm going thru something similar, (although I did a smittybilt winch) wired one of these solenoids and then connected the spod to that relay. This way I can allow power to the winch from my SPOD unit. The "power" selector on my which only activates the wireless function. If I plug in my winch controller it turns on the winch anyway so access to the winch controller is really only necessary if you need to plug in the controller or turn on the wireless.
Not sure if that helps, if you need access to the controller you might need to source longer cables and mount the controller somewhere higher that you can more easily access.

Thanks for the feedback, guys. Regarding connecting to the SPOD unit (@mtTundra ), I have a SwitchPro, and was told that the winch draws too much power to connect to it. I'm not familiar with the SPOD...presumably your system can handle a higher draw than mine. I'd be fine locating a remote switch in the truck to control the power on the winch (or power on the wireless, if that's what the switch does).

I would have thought that SSO would have also had a note regarding location of the relocation kit. Anyhow, I reached out to them and will see what they say.

    Thanks again.

@chrisbusnut you can't wire the Spod or Switchpro directly to the handle the current of the power wire but it can act as a trigger for the solenoid (link provided).
The Switchpro doesn't handle the full load of the winch, its just powering the solenoid, which allows the winch to draw the power it needs.
basically you'll have the solenoid from your switchpro, power a solenoid for the winch, which allows power from the battery to the winch.
Do not wire the power to the winch directly to your switchpro, that would be too much current.

Winches are all different sizes, and most require a relocation kit. Even my go rhino bumper required me to move the controller, there is just too much variance in size for all the different winch brands, sizes, etc

Okay, thank you. I've forwarded these posts to the installer. I'm sure we can figure something out. I've never had a winch before, so all of this is a bit new to me. I knew posting on the forum was the best option.

    Thanks again!

I am planning on doing something similar soon, so watching to see how you get things wired!
I am going with a victory 4x4 blitz bumper.

Got the truck back today. Control unit for winch is still behind the bumper. I ordered a kit that Warn produces that will allow me to relocate the control unit into the engine compartment. I'm not as concerned now that I know that the switch only controls the wireless function, so the only draw is the LED in the switch, which blinks slowly.

I'm really happy with the bumper. I've ordered a Factor 55 FlatLink E, which will allow me to conceal the winch line.

BTW, the bull bar presents no issues with TSS. That was a big relief.

How does the relocation pack install? Did you use existing screw locations to mount it?

Is your front right tire a little low on air?

Honestly, I’m not sure. I had it installed by one of the local vendors on SSO’s vendor list. I will see if I can find a link to the instructions or a video.
