    Tastefully enhanced...
Can't go wrong with the Tundra...in 5 years, they will visit the Service department less then all the other "domestics " in one year...

I had an amazing '07 GMC Duramax Classic and though it was reliable and amazing, it had a high cost of ownership...so I sold it for what I bought it for before I hit 100k miles after 5 years of ownership...

I have been an Audi fanatic for years and have owned and loved them all...I sold my diesel and bought a 2003 Audi S8...most amazing car ever...but they're not reliable and tho it can be worth owning if you do your own work on them, life eats up my free time to HS a car and always tinker...by far, an amazing car and fun but too expensive to keep alive...

So I bought a TRD S/C'd Tundra with 53k miles...all recalls and cam tower repairs done and I gotta say...I thought for the longest time Tundras looked like dildos with wheels but I am 100% sold in them! I'm either in love with wheeler dildos or I'm a new super fan...my wife's 05 4runner v8 has been stupid reliable...the most costly thing I've had to do on it over 7 years of owning is rebuild the ICON suspension...other then that, I only LOF... I'm hoping for the same on the Tundra...you won't be disappointed unless you NEED Interior tech like new GMs and Fords have but that's really just so you're comfy while waiting for a tow...

I enjoy the size of my truck too. I’m a big guy, 6’4 235 so space and comfort was important for me. In 2016, Tundra had probably the biggest rear seat space and had air vents for back passengers in crew cab models. Ford may have had this too, but I was more of a GM guy looking for something more reliable so Ford wasn’t an option.

The thing that always gets me is how long the Big Three have been selling/making 1/2 pickups for? Toyota started in the US in the early 2000’s and I think they make one hell’ve a 1/2 to compete with considering the generations of experience they’re going against. They just flat out know how to make reliable vehicles. It ain’t perfect but no truck is. It’s like building a player on Madden, you can’t have 5 stars in every category so it’s give and take. What’s important to you may not matter to someone else and vise versa.

I’m 3.5 years into ownership and have no complaints and would recommend a Tundra to a friend and would consider getting another one down the road myself.

According to Consumer report, Jeep is number 1 in customer satisfaction. Then they show that Jeep is Number #1 is being problematic and needing repair.
The two seem to contradict. Either the Jeeps are great, or people are just stupid.

There is a reason they have the best resale. And it's not payload, towing capacity, or MPG.

Honest opinion? I don't think they are that great. One of the worst platforms that Toyota makes IMO. Mine has been kind of a PITA. Others have covered the AIP and Cam tower leaks, but other things to look out for, based on my experience:

    Upper and lower ball joints.
Front stock shocks failed fairly early on mine
    Serp belt tensioner
    Clock spring
Oil pan seal (Toyota sucks at making seals - they sure do love their FIPG)

But, I am the minority. Most people on this forum love the shit out of their trucks. I don't really like mine any more. Too many problems and not enough capability.

Good luck. Mine will be for sale later this year - but you don't want to buy it - I think it was built on a Friday afternoon.

I'd sell it too. I've had good luck with Toyota but I would be in something else if the Tundra wasn't way less expensive than the competition. A platinum F150 was going to be $10k more.

    1995 Tacoma 182K when I sold it
2006 Tundra 4 door 176K - It was totaled or else I would still be driving it
    2017 Tundra CrewMax - Currently at 42K

I put an alternator in the 2006 but other than that I just took good care of them and was religious about the maintenance.

All total that's over 750K miles without any major issues.

I'll never own anything other than Toyota trucks

I'm looking for my first truck and it will be the first non-Honda product I have owned. I am obviously looking at the Tundra and also considering the new Chevy / GMC models. My absolute favorite is the GMC AT4 with the 6.2 but that is currently low to mid 50s with all the rebates. The reason I am looking at the Tundra is because of the reliability. I have driven Honda products for 25 years for a reason. I would be sick to think I spent that kind of money on truck and not be able to drive it and trust it. I think the 2020 Tundra is close to the new GM offering in terms of features that I care about but would like to see a better camera option, bed access and interior storage. I will most likely end up in a 2020 Tundra because of the reliability and ticking nearly every box I want. I just think those new GM trucks look so good.

I wonder if that's because people who want to off road feel a Jeep is the only option. Admittedly, the Wrangler doesn't really have any direct competition (that I can think of).

Before I bought my Tundra, I was strongly considering a 2020 Sierra Elevation. Fuel economy is better than the Tundra, as are payload and towing, especially if you go for the max trailering package. However, I was concerned about the risk of both brake failure (more serious) and issues with features such as the infotainment system or the tailgate that no longer has a handle and can only be opened with a button (less serious). To be fair, I think the brake issue has now been resolved with a recall. At the time I was in the market, though, that combined with about a $20k CAD higher purchase price over the Tundra had me iffy at best about buying a GM. Obviously I could have waited because GM will eventually deal on price as you get later in the model year more than Toyota will but then you also run the risk of not being able to get the exact features you want. (The max trailering package especially is hard to find at the best of times.)

One feature I noticed that the Tundra has and the GM needs (according to owners) is the ability to adjust the brightness of the backup camera. Apparently the screen in the GM is blinding when you back up at night but can't be adjusted because it's a "safety feature".

Thanks for the reply. For $20k difference the Tundra would be a no brainer. I want the Limited trim because I have always had leather and a sunroof and don't want to give that up. I could get a Evolution trim for less than Limited and swap out for leather later but can't get the 6.2 in that trim. There are pros and cons to all of them. I wish I could get a truck that looks like the Chevy, Toyota reliability and the Ford sunroof...

First time Tundra owner. I really enjoy the truck and it is our go to round town vehicle over other suv. It has not been trouble free unfortunately. Purchased new in 2018 (currently at 25k miles) and have had a few repairs so far. Rear differential re-sealed for leak, windshield cowl warped and will be replaced in a week, passenger side cam tower leaking but holding off on repair for now as i need the truck and it is major ordeal to repair (hoping both sides get repaired at once so it is one and done visit) they applied some tape to the tss sensor (love the radar cruise by the way), trailer brake control flashed for disconnect error.

So far Toyota has been great about the repairs. I wish I had the luck some of the other members have had with only fluids and tires for 200k miles, but overall we still like the truck. Only reason we may not keep it for 200k miles is if we need 3/4 or 1 ton to tow a bigger camper.

    I’ve had a tundra of every gen 1st, 2nd, 3rd (05, 10, 17).. along with a few tacoma’s (02, 04)... along with a 94 and 95.5 pick up

They are money pits. You will spend a ton of money...

...making the truck your own, being happy with it, and having only to put gas in it.

Long term owner, and plan to stay that way.

What about a Silverado RST? I suspect it's about the cheapest way to get both leather and a 6.2, will be more likely to be discounted than an AT4 and is the best looking of the new GMs, in my opinion.

No. I don't tow heavy, but haul alot. I like diesels, but the new emissions crap makes them a bit more of a hassle. Plus I dont need one. Probably going to end up with a Ram 6.4 or a Ford 7.3.

Hell no it’s not a daily driver. It’s like working overtime, you aways have to steer the freaking thing and it’s like clock work. Don’t get me wrong wrong, I like the Jeep thing but only off-roading. I had one and not knowing and while doing 70 on highway while everyone breaking and swerving I swerved too just to almost crash the fuc**** thing like it’s a pittbull ready to attack I was caught off guard and almost crashed the fuc***. Luckily I know how to drive but for realz not what you what for daily driver.

We to had a wrangler rubicon. Fun vehicle not suited for daily driving. For the money and long term value I couldn’t beat the Tundra. Good buy.

Another thought on Tundra’s and Toyota in general. No car or truck is going to be problem free, but drive a ten year old Domestic and then drive a ten year old Toyota, there is no comparison. The fit and finish holds up much better with less squeaks, rattles and shimmies. My old Camry at 200k felt more tight than our Malibu with 60k.
