Auburn Pro Series LSD

I was thinking about this thread the other day, bad news but a gear type is worth the wait over a clutch.

 

I'm sure the gear type would be nicer in some situations, but at what price and how hard would have to run the PRO to wear it out?

The Eaton/TRD/Kazuma LSD in my 2002 has maybe 150,000 miles on it. Most of my driving (99%) is on pavement, and it is working just like it did when it was installed. I'm not doing burnouts, but I do come off the line hard, and I take turns and accelerate out of turns as hard as I can when conditions permit.

 

I don't know, but I do remember over the past few years members on here mentioning that there auburn wasn't working right or was already worn out after a few thousand miles of use. I thought the gear type was cheaper (in price) than the Auburn too..... who knows

 

Yeah, I read that some may have used synthetic gear oil by mistake.

I'm just going to sit on the sidelines and wait for a few of you the BETA test the gear drive version before I decide to change anything.

 

I too am on the fence about which unit to install.

 

I just recently installed my 4.88s and Auburn Pro, you must use non synthetic oil and the Auburn does come with oil additive. I also did an oil change around 500 miles, that way you clean out any contaminants from new gears, assembly and excess break-in clutch pack material, it also gives you free bar oil for your chainsaw. Dont forget to order a gasket and silicone for the rear pumpkin (front uses just silicone)and after installation give the machined surface and nuts a quick coat of flat black to prevent rusting.

Yep with the help of friend, he had all the right bearing pullers.

 

Nice. .. sounds like you saved alot of money that way

 

Did you have to buy any gauges or other tools. Im thinking the tools are probably cheaper than the labor costs

I received an email from them today that the release has been delayed again. They now expecting to be available in march.

 

Where are they made?

 

I hope they do ultimately come out with it. Yukon (I think it was Yukon) was working on one. I emailed them and they said they stopped working on making one for our 10.5" diffs.

It is odd there is not already a gear driven LSD out there for the 10.5" al ready.

I've read that they are importing these, is that correct?

 

I'm not sure and wouldn't be surprised if coming from China. If coming from China maybe they are delayed due to the coronavirus.

 

When i called and spoke to a person for 20 minutes 3 weeks ago, he said that geting the container thru customs could delay the release as customs is taking longer with the Corona virus concerns

 

If they are Made in China, I am concerned with the quality of steel used to make them.

 

I'm willing to bet the Auburn unit is made in China as well

 

Auburn is Made in the USA, using American steel... it's been my experience that American steel is superior to Chinese steel, particularly when it comes to heat treating.

 

I wasn't aware that the Auburn using is made in the USA. Agree, American steel is far superior to Chinese steel.

 

Anxious to see how this pans out. Id definitely prefer a gear type LSD but im in no rush.

 

Harrop (sp?) has an e locker coming soon too but i think its going to be 12-1400 bones

 

I'm kinda in a rush. my diff is slowly destroying itself at the moment and If I can replace it with a more rugged option them I'm going to.
