Crewmax vs. Double cab

CM for sure!

For those mentioning that the Tundra's DC is bigger than the Tacoma's DC while they prefer the larger bed on the Tundra DC, keep this in mind: while the Tundra CM's bed may be a few inches shorter than a Tacoma long bed (and a few inches longer than a Tacoma short bed), it is also significantly wider and deeper.

I went from a double-cab long bed Tacoma to a CrewMax Tundra, and everything about it is an upgrade.

 

I believe I read an article a while back that said on the crewmax, the panty-drop ratio was 1:6.1; whereas, the DC was sitting at a solid 1:4, stock.

While I am new to this forum I am not new to Tundras. Like everyone said you can probably make due with a bed extender. Personally I could not. I needed the extra bed space and I think CM looks out of proportion. Anyways when I bought my new 2014 DC My thought was my needs of utility first. I bought the cheapest 4x4 Rearseat Tundra with bucket front seats (SR5) the dealer had and My kids comfort when we take the trailer out was no where on my list of requirements. If you are even thinking a little about the comfort of the backseat then you should definitely get the CM.

 

Just yesterday we had a situation where I needed to take 6 people (myself with 3 kids -2 in car seats - and 2 other adults) across town. The 3-across the front configuration of my DC was perfect and everyone was comfortable and the car seats fit nicely.

I could not legally do that with my 5-seater 4Runner or the 5-seater CM.

 

I don't know if this is good or bad, but since it worked out for me I would say it is a good point for CM.
When there is not enough room in the bed you can load the whole BBQ grill on the rear seat, with room to spare.

 

Just comes down to needs imo. We chose the CM for increase in cab size over my F150 extra cab with 6.5’ bed. Feels so nice and luxurious riding in the back, and no compromises with car seat placement or access. I also did a rear seat delete on the small seat in back for a camping fridge that worked out nice. We have been loving the crewmax!

 

It is rare to have a 6 seat truck! Cool you were able to do this without any car seat interference. My dad had a truck like this and it was always interesting to take that many folks out to eat in a truck.
We have a Honda Pilot for these occasions, but we have rarely had the opportunity to use the third row at this point. Most of the time our friends would rather drive separate than pile in one car, and with only one kid the grandparents still fit without the third row. We are thinking about having another child next year so I’m sure we’ll have more third row needs at that time. And I’ll have to reinstall the 5th seat in my CM

 

Had a 16’1794 CM, now looking at DC, ya you can play baseball in the back of the CM. I didn’t like how rough the ride was after all the mods. Wondering how a DC rides with lift 3/1 bigger tires. I’m sure there’s a few fellow members who can answer that for me.. hint hint..

 

I'm a double cab guy.

For my needs the extra bed capacity is way more useful than the extra cabin space.

Plus the back seats are still big enough to comfortably fit 2 grown adults and a kid (or small adult).

Heck I've done lunch runs with 5 full grown men in my double cab.

 

No kids, no crewmax.

 

So, after looking at 20 used Tundras, I finally found the one I love. It's a 2016 orange Tundra double cab Limited. It's got 125,000 highway miles on it. One owner. No accidents. I'm thinking it needs a tonneau cover, nerf bars and some nice, fitted mats. Lol

That is an awesome choice. I would have went with that color if I didn’t find the one I own now first.

That's my work actually. I work on the production floor at Velcro USA. It does look like a woodshop in the pic. Lol

 

i was iffy about my DC at first but the bed does come in handy during the summer when we head to the lake I load the grill 4 canapes,3 tables, camping chairs
and a large cooler and still have room in the cab for 2 cars seats

 

Obviously i get a little over excited any time i see what i think might be a wood shop. ha

 

I agree with people above, if you plan on using it mainly to tote passengers, get a CrewMax, but if you want the extra bed space, get a DC. I love my DC and there seems to be more CMs than DCs on the road. I like having the extra foot in the bed to haul more items whether it be furniture or a pair of kayaks when going to the lake.
