yea modern diesels are a real pain in the ass. Stick to gas trucks if you're not towing a ton, which no one does anyways.

    A LOT... NEVER ENDS
I do the math every fill up. If I recall correctly, I think my puter tells me I get like 16mpg which is CRAZY off (numbers don't lie hints to why I math it up). I consistently get 10-12.5ish.

Stock tire size and the truck computer is very close. If you change the tire size the truck computer isn't going to be close and you have to account the different diameter. Basically the truck's computer is seeing a less distance traveled than what you actually have gone.

Tfltruck did a test and the truck computer was only off by .3mpg.

I sense the sarcasm only because I've followed your posts.

I don't drink the Kool-Aid, I like a lot of different trucks for various reasons. I know you have a Ram/ Cummins. The Eco is not a Cummins, and I only commented on this since someone brought up that exact truck. I don't make blanket statements that "all other trucks suck" or "all diesels suck." I shopped Super Dutys while shopping the Tundra. I have ridden in my buddy's Ecodiesel since new. It rides nice, gets excellent mileage even towing, and has nice creature comforts. How can you not like it? Sucks that it happened to him. A coworker has one that's just fine. I don't preach the Yota reliability stuff to my buddys, no one wants to hear how much better each others truck is, how much theirs sucks. He called me on his own to ask about the Tundra, and gave me his reasons why he is considering it. Not wanting his truck to break down all the time was one of them.

for work, if you can use a sedan, leasing one will pay for itself in gas savings and you get to keep the truck :)

I know VW is still reeling from the diesel-gate scandal but before they bought my Passat back I was getting 50-53mpg hwy and ~45mpg city. I loved that car but that note was killing me during the downturn in the oilfield so I was glad to let it go. Thinking about getting another one if the mpg is still the same after they "fix" the computers.

Y’all that get over 18 must have one of those Prius tundra crossovers because my 5.7 17 4x4 crew cab 2.5 level truck drinks gas quicker than a soccer mom chugs wine

I am getting 17-18 mpg but I guess I have pretty much decided I am not in a hurry to get anywhere, certainly not in a hurry to get to work so probably I drive differently then most. At times I even see 19mpg. Lowest was 12 with stop and go traffic in town. It is a crew cab four wheel drive too.

Guy that works next door has a Ram 1500 Eco diesel that has been in the shop for well over a month now. I believe he said was leaking oil filter mount, new turbo, and new intake manifold.

I'm getting high 18-20 on the highway at 65 but once I get into town she starts dropping and at fill up (about 1/2 tank) I'm at around 15.8-16.2. I hand calculate every fill up and the computer is normally about .5mpg higher.

Nice. I gotta say, that is probably the exact truck I would have gone for . Did you at least get the 2020? I prefer the GMC over the Chev but the ride for a 3/4 ton can be beat. :hattip:

Tire weight makes a big difference, I have 20” OEM rims with defender LTX, for winter I run 18” Toyota steel rims with duratrac’s, gas usage goes up from 14 l/100km to 16. Both stock size.

Dear Cat. You should have a huge carbon foot print like the rest of us. Oh hell... i am going to my back yard and chop down a tree for the h*ll of it ...:);) AND i am going to take 2 plastic bags for each item i buy at Walmart...:p All seriousness we have a pretty fuel full efficient truck for its size and weight.

    Working on it!
My disclaimer before you all read this post - I'm a gas mileage geek and I have a good reason for being so. As an airman in the late 80s, I was stationed in interior Alaska and we were told to always know your car's MPGs. Because if your gas gauge went out, one could not survive very long in -40F temperatures if your damn car ran out of gas.

So, since then, I've tracked my MPG. I now keep a detailed Excel spreadsheet of all monies put into my vehicles (yea, I know a geek). Part of that money is gas - and calculations are built to determine MPG and cost per mile. With the first Tundra (2018 Platinum), the truck got 14.5 MPG (based on 54 full tanks of gas).

Additionally, the 2018 was purchased new and the dashboard mileage estimate was 600 miles when I picked it up. After the first tank refill, this estimate dropped to ~476 and continued to drop to ~455 the two years I drove it.

My point being - I don't know if I'd trust the dashboard mileage estimate...because we'd be freaking happy if we could get 600 miles per 38 gallon tank of gas. Calculate it - a couple of fillups will give you a decent number to use.

One BIG reason I bought a Tundra is I only drive 8-10K miles per year.

I get 13-14 mpg but drive like my ass is on fire. And grin the whole time. But I get it. If fuel economy is straining the finances, time to look at alternatives.

I hand calculate every fill up and being stock suspension and tires for now (6112/5160 ready to be installed) I can get 19-20 on the highway when I drive right and the dash isn't far off 1mpg at the most. This is a screenshot I took today when I got home, mostly highway with a mix of in town driving. I filled up Sunday evening so remote start idling mixed in for Mon, Tue, Wed morning and right before I leave work.20200212_183244.jpg

I swear I am just having fun but I am not sure you are gaining any thing at all.

Around here is the average price of fuel, your area may be different:

    87e10 $2.04
    ULSD $2.89

Diesel is 41.6% more expensive then gas. So at 14 MPG, your Duramax will have to average 19.83 MPG just to break even. Throw in higher maintenance costs and I am not sure you are gaining anything. In fact with modern diesels I doubt you are going to bang out 20+ MPG. But not sure what tear you got?

Don't get me wrong, I am all about a diesel, let alone a Duramax and whatever makes you happy!

Lifts it, adds bigger heavier tires, complains about the gas mileage.

2016 Silverado 2500 LTZ with Z71 package with 25k. Love the Tundra . I did analysis considering fuel, mpg, insurance, DEF, etc and still came out in plus. Duramax is one truck that compares to resell value like a Yota.

Note, due to change in policy. It would cost me an extra $3500 a year to drive. I am not a 25 mile a day driver.

I did 41K last year. I got right at 18 for most of those miles. Stock out of the box.
