Found a nice set of Lexus 6-lug rims.

I’ve found some decent options near me, what’s the ideal backspacing? I have the fender flares and want them even with the outside of the truck.

 

What size tire are you going to run? Unless you are running skinnies (255 or smaller), you should be fine.

To give you an idea...here are my wheel/tire specs

I’m priming up to install these Energy Suspension Steering Rack Bushings (that I ordered a few months back) coming up soon. Getting stoked!

I was probably going to run 285/75, I’d been interested in the skinnies for road trip gas mileage, any savings there?

 

So the oil I ordered from Wal-Mart arrived just now. Or so I thought. I couldn't beleive the size of the box it came in. Then I found these things. No clue what these are for but they were supposed to go to a guy in Georgia. I guess he has my oil.

 

Dayumm! They look better than I thought they would.

 

Oh, you'll be fine with it lining up with the body with 4-4.5 backspacing. Not really any gas savings since they are e-rated and HEAVY.

Here are a couple sites to help you figure out what wheels/tires will be like on your truck. If you are looking at Toyota OEM wheels you can go here and get the offsets for the specific wheel you find... The offset is the ET number.

Using the FJ Wheels as an example...
And you can see your Tundra wheels have the same offset...



So same offset as your stock wheels

That site has a VERY detailed calculator that let's you add in all kinds of parameters to figure out the difference in whee/tire sizes... But I like this one better as it's simpler and a little more straightforward

 

After seeing the pics in the craigslist I thought they were good looking, but I agree, I was surprised how good looking they were on the truck after seeing the pic above. I would totally rock those.

Drove the GTI today for the first time since I took it apart. Its driving like a dream now, quieter and more responsive.

Wife drove my truck today and check engine light went off. I think it's my trucks way of making her not want to drive it.

99% sure the gas cap isn't sealing.

Speaking of, what is the reasoning behind the 5 lug tacos? The pre-runners are 6 lug and the 4wd is 6 lug. It seems to me like an entire change in the mfg process in order to save a few $$ would end up costing more than you would save.

 

no clue honestly. They killed the 5 lug finally with the 3rd gen taco.
it never made sense to me why they had 2 totally different frames. Then to make it weirder they had prerunners, 2WD 4x4 frame trucks.

but with the death of the 5 lug, mini trucks offically died in the modern world, They were much easier to lower than the 4x4 frames


they were Old school setups on the 1st gen tacos, Shims for alignments and all. so maybe the cost savings was in Tooling bing there from the hilux and pickups

 

I hoped for a while that they would bring back the mini truck and sell it as a Scion, but now that Scion is gone I don't think Toyota received my inception style suggestion.

 

Personally I’d love to have small 4x4s again.
Wish the taco would go mini again, bring the t100 back as a midsize and the tundra as the full.

I'm sure they would sell. Small trucks have a lot of commercial use and they would have a following here. The old Tacoma's and pickups still fetch high dollars here used for that reason.

 

probably depends on location more than anything.
but alot of people out here bitch the new Tacoma is too small.. the damn things are massive to me. tundras are behemoths

 

New tacos feel small, it's the cramped interior. America is just stuck in a phase of wanting big cars, the rest of the world doesn't share that desire. At some point it will wear off and small practical vehicles will be in demand, maybe when other states hit $4 a gallon for gas.

Was nice not having to spend north of $800 for a set of tires huh? I miss when trucks weren't so damn expensive. There is a market for small economical trucks, I think manufacturers just don't want to impact sales of bigger more expensive ones.

 

LOL i have never bought cheaper tires on my taco. the last set of coopers was 900. theyre on the tundra right now.

hell i spent 750 for tires on my avalon.


corolla was cheap though.. coopers for 340

It's still possible to come back as a Toyota. The compact truck market is reimmerging in some places.
