2HI to 4HI grind

I am in need of help. I have 2007 5.7 SR5 4x4. When I shift into 4HI it grinds around the transfer case until the 4x4 engages. There are no flashing lights on the dash. It drives fine in 4HI. When I shift back to 2HI there is a droning/vibration sound at slower speeds that can be felt a little in the steering wheel and in the floor boards around me feet. It grinds every time I try to put it into 4 HI. It only grinds into 4HI while moving. When I actuate the 4x4 with the truck stopped, the 4x4 engages perfectly. Any suggestions?

 

Have you changed your transfer case fluid?

 

Do you make sure you have stopped and shifted into N before shifting into and out of 4L?

 

I have not checked that yet as I have been very busy with work and kids. I will check that. Is it just a fill hole on top and dump on the bottom?

 

Yes I always do so if I use 4LO whick may be once a year. My issue is going into 4HI while moving. Under 50 MPH of course. I never shift info 4HI over 20 MPH.

Is that the same actuator that is in the 2007? On rock auto it looks like a different style part.

 

I believe so but haven’t ever changed mine myself. I think there is a how to thread on here about it. Or maybe a YouTube video. I’m pretty sure it’s fairly easy to do in your driveway.
