2017 Platinum Headlights turn off when turn signal is on

So every so often my trucks headlights in the "Auto" position will turn off and the truck will convert back to "daytime mode". I took my truck to Toyota and they tried blaming the LED bulbs saying they void the warranty. Said Ill be right there with the stock bulbs and you will see they do it too...... I get there they say your going to have to pay for the labor for our guy to put them in where i being to laugh cause they "put the truck back together and parked it in the parking lot"...... I said let me speak to a manager, this manager hears everything I show him video and he suggest we go look at the truck and wouldnt you know it we replicate the issue. They took the stock bulbs and said they need the truck longer. Well see what excuses they come back with next but this issue has happened with both the stock bulbs and LEDS and is pretty trippy at night the whole truck trips out and the lights are flipping on and off.

While it doesn't happen to every Tundra, this is somewhat of a known issue. Until they replace the turn signal stalk, the dealer will also be beating their head against the wall on your dime.

Their is a revised part number for the turn signal stalk where they have had to redo or redesign the stalk in some fashion.

If you use your lights in normal on off mode it will never happen. Only in auto mode. If you notice your lights cut off, switch to bowman on position and lights will come on.

I also had a buddy not on this board this happened to. Took 2 months for dealer to find and fix. In and out at least 5 or 6 times. I kept telling him and telling him until they replace the stalk it will keep doing it. Finally on the last visit he raised hell until it was replaced. Fixed the problem and has been fine ever since. Lord I hate being right!!!!

 

I had this happen exact issue on a 4Runner and the problem was in the turn signal stalk. I would agree with what knoxville36 said.

 

You both are right! Looks like I saved my ass for raising hell cause they traced it back to the stalk and I’m getting a new one Thursday.

 

My truck has done this about 5 times in the last 3 years. You're lucky you could replicate the issue, most have not been able to. I hear the stalk is the issue too but as infrequently it occurs I can't imagine I could replicate it during a visit to toyota.

 

Try turning on the high beams and then the signal that’s how I got it to replicate in front of a manager. Again it’s important that the headlights are on via “Auto” not “on” when in the on position it works fine. I did that in front of them and they were shocked it did what my video did.
