I've seen it mentioned here and there in the forum, but I'm curious if anyone knows what trim the TRD PRO is based on? I've read the 19 is SR5 based and the 20 is limited based, but I wanted to confirm. Any input is appreciated.

I would say what you read is pretty close to accurate.

Not sure this ? makes any sense. The Pro is a trim by itself. They are all based off the base model.

True that. But I think what he means is how the 19 PRO's do not come with certain things like, push button start, dual auto climate control, leather steering wheel, heated seats, Apple CarPlay for example. The 2020 PRO now comes with those options usually found on a Limited.

I have a 2020 SR5 with TRD Off-road package. I have push button start and dual zone automatic AC.

Leather steering wheel? We got none of that stuff in 2019. But I don't miss the "push button start".

^^^This is what I mean. The reason I am asking is more along the line of mods I plan in the future. For example, if I want to add something like power folding mirrors, if it's limited based, I might have some elements prewired in the truck vs if it's SR5 based that might not be the case.

It's so nice though, never have to take my keys out of my pocket - and hopefully it'll be compatible with the new smart key function Apple is planning on rolling out.

Yea the push button start in my Tacoma was nice, but it always concerned me. Like what if I push that button and NOTHING HAPPENS? There is NO manual key to override the button. Although my guy at the dealership did tell me you could hold the FOB by the button and do something, and it would start. Still happy to be back using a KEY.

    I always wondered about that.
I like the key where I can do things but and you dont think about it on a new truck I sure do remember bumping the key on my old trucks.
I would love to have push button start for some unknown reason but am glad I dont in other reasons.

Seriously. Having the cab lights turn on as I walk up, and being able to just grab the door handle and open it is awesome.

If the keyfob battery is dead, you will need to hold the keyfob on the push button to get it to start until you replace the battery in the fob.

You need to download the 2020 Tundra brochure. There's a matrix in it that itemizes each feature for every trim level. The PRO is a stand-alone trim level, but appears to be closer to the higher trims now than it was in the past. I've never done the math, but it seems the general consensus is if you plan to lift the truck, you're better off not getting the PRO due to the cost of just the suspension. If you want the creature comforts, get the Limited and mod away. Good luck!

My deposit is in on Pro. One mod I'm eyeing is power folding mirrors. I'm wondering how close the wiring will match different trims (SR5, Limited) to make the mod happen, that is why I am wondering if anyone knows the base trim. For example, the Limited has an option to get power folding mirrors (I think) and the SR5 does not. If the Pro is based on the limited I'm thinking it might be that the wiring reflects that potential upgrade.... either way I'll likely do the mod, just trying to get oriented before opening the truck up...

If you’re able to do it please let us know. It’s the one thing the PRO is missing.

Oh, well now that you say that, I believe that's EXACTLY what he said. So, if the "push button" itself farts out, you are screwed. I liked it in my Tacoma, and my wife's Highlander Limited has it, but it always concerned me. Guess I'm just OLD SCHOOL.

2020 PRO is also missing the Photo-chromatic option on the side mirrors that the Limited has, but the rear view mirror has it...I hope someone figures out how to add in the Photo-chromatic glass and post step by step instructions and crayon sketches for the electrically challenged of us.

I'll post back if I am able to pull it off. I think it will be doable with some added wiring... need to decide if I buy new platinum mirrors or olders one off ebay etc...

Hate to revive an older thread, but did anyone ever figure this out? Looking at a TRD Pro at the moment, but thinking I will miss power folding mirrors...

Check the build link in my signature.
The Limited doesn't come with power folding mirrors or auto-dimming either. Toyota did away with both of those from the Limited trim when they went to the "Gen 3" in 2014 and saved the power-fold option for the Platinum and 1794 trims only (it was one less part they had to make because those models also have memory, auto-dim, and puddle lights).

The 2020 and 2021 TRD Pro have all the features of a Limited except for the option to get the BSM/RCTA. You get leather seats, auto AC with heated seats, JBL audio (if you get the CrewMax), moonroof, and the same manual fold/heated/power adjustable mirrors as the Limited but with a color matched cap.

It is possible to put the power fold mirrors on the truck (others have done it), but it will require you to run all the wiring, re-pin the connectors, and get a set of the mirrors. Or buy a Platinum and then upgrade suspension, exhaust, and swap out things like the grill insert, fog lights, and wheels.

Probably a bit more than I'm wanting to do at the moment, but maybe down the road if it annoys me enough. Just put a deposit down on a 2021 TRD Pro and hope to get it Thursday. Keeping fingers crossed I don't have to fold driver's mirror in every time I pull in garage. Heh!

My 2021 DC Pro has a leather steering wheel despite it saying it would have a urethane wheel in the model comparison on Toyota's website.
