Prospective BFG KO2 owners in winter states

I’m down to about 7-8/32 all the way around and I’ve lost a significant amount of traction since new. I’m thinking their useful life in the winter is about done.
I do not air down. I’d be doing it all the time around here in CO.
Other than that they have been pretty good but I’ll be going a different direction soon.
Just thought I would share my observations.

 

Sliding or wheel spin? Or both?

 

Both have got significantly worse since new. Maybe it’s to be expected but thats a lot of tread left for as much deterioration as I’ve seen.

 

But, sliding is much worse. Worse than the traction. Any ideas?

 

I'm at the halfway point with mine. I haven't experienced that yet. I have started to pay attention though.

 

I’m going your route with the Cooper. They seem to have a good reputation and many have said they do well in the snow.

 

Pat, when you get to that point let me know if you see the same symptoms.

Seems to be fine. Tires have worn perfectly. Other than some balancing issues, they have been great. The first two winters I was extremely impressed but they are down right dangerous now.

 

Sure will. I have no complaints with the BFG. I know when it time to do it again it'll be these again or the Cooper XLTs.

 

I am running in 4WD anytime it’s snowing at this point or my traction control takes over. I was hoping to run them through the summer but that plan may need to change.

 

That is pretty bad. The last time I was in 4wd, we were off road a few weeks ago.

 

I was down to 4/32” on my 04 Dodge when I sold it recently, and I didn’t notice any really decrease in traction on the highway.

 

Were you driving in winter weather? I don’t notice any issues in normal driving conditions.

 

Had them on my 3/4 ton Chevy.. did excellent in deep snow and off road, Decent in mud, and acceptable on icy roads. Leaning towards them myself after my Yokohama’s wear out? Hearing good things around here with Falken AT3 W’s though? Less$$ but it’s hard to beat the KO2’s

Yep. Some really shitty roads.

 

How many miles do you have on them? I had over 40k on my F150 and they were looking to last for another 30k. I was pretty happy with them other than always being out of balance.

 

I still really like my bfg ko2 in the snow. They are at maybe 2/3 tread. I'm thinking I have another summer and maybe another winter on them. I'm not thrilled about the wet roads performance, but my lack of a sway bar and slightly soft front springs don't help much. The traction in snow has been fantastic though.
I don't know what tires I'll do next because these were such a screaming deal. They are a pretty popular size (315 70 17) and I couldn't find much close to the $200 a tire I paid.

Hmm, I am at 5/32 on the factory Michelin AT2s...they are done. Ill be in the market for tires soon.

 

I wonder if something has been worse with the CO snow this week. I've never lost traction in any of my Toyota trucks, but last week I slid into the median after a very slight turn, and then slid a few feet down the off ramp off I-70. Nothing too dangerous, but very surprising. Last night I really had to baby it or I would lose traction at every light and my tires are only three weeks old.

 

Maybe? I’m glad you replied. Last night was my final straw. I was sliding everywhere in 4WD.
