Dash Squeak

Thanks again for posting up. I ended up going with the 5/8” since it’s darker, worked perfectly and it killed the squeaking. This is a test strip, but even with this not pushed all the way in, unless you knew I put it there you’d assume it came like that.

 

Sounds like the back rod helps because the windshield is too close to the dash. I was told by my windshield installer that it’s common for squeaking from the glass being too close on a lot of Toyota’s he’s dealt with. Different than the OP’s squeak location.

 

My 2019 has a small strip of factory installed foam but it doesn't make contact with the windshield.

I believe my small pieces of self installed foam worked but I'm going to buy a long strip of that 5/8" baker rod.

Got some back rod, we'll see how it does tomorrow when it's -20. I don't expect it to be silent in MB winters, but hopefully it reduces or dampens some noise

It was about -10 this morning, drove to work and not a single dash creak/pop/squeak after installing the 5/8" backer rod.

Still a few other noises when going down our rough roads in the cold, but that is expected

I'm happy to report the annoying one(s) that was driving me nuts, from the passenger windshield side, that would pop over ever little bump, is now silent

Only frustrating part for me was how long I waited to do this and how cheap it was haha Combine this with $30 in Noico sound deadening from Amazon and it’s like a new truck inside.

Do you have a link to your post or info on what you did with the sound deadening? Anything to make it quieter is a good thing.

Definitely worth a shot for $5. I have enough to do 4 Tundra's with my roll. Luckily I've only had the truck since September and hasn't been driving me nuts for years

 

Mine has been driving me nuts for about 4 months. I've tried just about everything. Toyota has no clue how to fix.

 

Realized I had some 5/8 backer rod from trying to seal up a bedroom sliding door for the winter time and saw it in my shop. Worked perfectly. I just cut it short of the VIN on both sides so I actually have two pieces but it works well and is nearly invisible unless you're looking for it!

 

Didn't help the noise. More of a tick than a rattle. Bought ready to set the truck on fire or trade it in. So damn annoying and Toyota has no clue how to fix. Tried about everything.

 

Hey Jason, I'm not familiar with the 2nd gen dash but I'm curious if you've tried taking the radio out and looking back in there? I was able to fix my dash noise by doing that. It might be worth a shot since the easier method didn't work.

 

I have a 2018 Tundra. I'm just trying about anything I can to remove the tick / rattle.

At this point it might be worth trying to snag a 2020 Pro. Would hate to have a payment but I really can't deal with this every winter.

 

I know. There is no such thing as a Gen 3 so I always say Gen 2. Anyways, I would open up the dash some and see if you can identify the source of the noise. That's how I fixed mine and I posed pictures earlier this this thread. I would try that before giving up and selling the truck.

 

Thanks for the info. I will try that. I just wish Toyota would step up. I just don't want more rattles to happen tearing stuff apart.

 

Rattles will happen on 2nd and Turd Gens. I know for a fact from friends with each Gen and they do rattle. The biggest rattler was the 2013 Rock Warrior. It rattled, squeaked, and chirped. Best thing to do is track them down yourself because Toyota won’t go there for you.

Well, he wasn't wrong. This site is the only place that refers to them as 3rd gen. Even the moderators have said that.

Not sure. Maybe its disappeared.

 

We got our first warm day since I "fixed" my dash squek and I noticed the noise came back after the dash sat in the sun then went away by the evening. I'll probably try the backer rod soon as a permanent fix.
