Driver's side lean

I don't know why some have lean and some not, but mine did not have any lean and after the spacer lift (OEM shocks and springs) I still do not have lean. Mine is the exact same measurement both sides.
Some seem to have lean with OEM suspension.

Edit: Yes, it seems like the lean issue is typically when aftermarked suspension is added. The OEM Tundra springs are different lengths on driver and passenger side to prevent lean on OEM setup. For that matter, 5100s should not have significant lean either since it is using the OEM springs.

 

Good luck. Mine has dropped 1.5 to 2 inches on passenger side. They going to make the installer take the lifted off and put it at factory then measure then but lift back on then measure to see what they are. Dealer said the coils on the front was swapped. Installer said BS. I have white and yellow marking on driver side and red and blue on passenger side. It’s the same markings on a 18 and 19 they have on there lot. Me and the installer are making that argument with Toyota.

 

I don't have it with 6112s but I am also a tad shy of 200 lbs. I think it is the big bubbas that complain about the lean

 

Recently put an OME lift on and realized this eve that I’m about a half inch lower on the left side. Front and rear. Maybe 3/8” on the rear. Full tank of gas. Some of what I’m reading above makes sense. I pulled the stock coil overs apart and after reading the previous posts I realized the springs are marked with different colors and are indeed different lengths. By almost half an inch. Dammit, I wish I had seen this coming when I put the lift in. Wondering now what the best fix might be. If needed at all. I’ve got air bags in the rear which in theory could make up for some of it but the bags really just negate the suspension when pressurized. For the rear I did the Icon progressive mini pack, front is OME 612 coil overs. Kind of curious if anyone has ever mixed an OME 612 and 614 to make up for the lean... maybe a shim in the rear...

 

I just did the OME heavy load kit and I am also having the same issue. The lean is definitely noticeable as it’s about 3/4”
Has anyone been able to correct it with spacers or airbags?

 

People on the forum suggest shims for the driver side. When I put my lift in with new 5100's I will put a shim in to gain the half inch difference I have with my truck. I guess it's a common problem with more weight on the drivers side.

 

Shims are the easiest way to fix the lean you get with 6112s or most other aftermarket suspension kits.
For the 5100s though you should not need it since you are using the OEM springs, which already correct the problem by being longer on the driver side. (Unless you add the same spacers on both sides to gain more height than what the 5100s provide. But you should not have to add a shim to the driver side only.

 

But what about if you have a lean stock? I'm keeping my coils when I put the 5100's in. Figure if I have the lean already I need the shim.

 

For some reason some stock trucks have lean and some not. Mystery....

 

So what do most people do in these situations? Install 5100's and then figure out they are leaning on one side? Or is it as simple as measuring your truck on a level surface before you install the 5100s to see if the lean was there before? Are people only noticing this after installing the 5100s?

 

I went with Bilstein 6112 shocks at 1.9”. I have NO lean after install but I did have it with my factory Coilovers at stock height. Idk?

 

Mine had it before, bought 6112's, installed, still had it, said screw it I'll live with it. Everytime I walked up behind my truck or saw it from the rear it ate at me. Just installed a toytec shim on the drivers side this evening since I was doing other things as well

I measured the difference from driver to passenger side. Then ordered the correct amount of shims and installed them along with the 5100s. I have since swapped the 5100s with 6112s and still have two shims on the driver's side and one n the passenger's side. No lean.

 

Thanks. Did you do two on the driver's side and one on passenger side to get a little extra height? As opposed to only putting on on the driver's side.

Also, when you had the 5100s, did you go with middle setting or highest?

 

Two on driver's and one on passenger's. Yes to get the extra height. I ran the shims on the middle and top setting with the 5100s.

 

Does adding a shim require removing the complete shock assembly?

 

I had 5100's on top setting put on my '17CM last month and it is perfectly level left to right and front to back.

 

my toyota friend also said, if your passenger side rear is slightly higher, that points the driver side down. I think correcting the rear to be identical will help. Sorta like a seesaw. Kinda makes since lol

 

On factory yellow Bilstein coils
Which color code is appropriate for which side? Does anybody know the answer to that?

Came across this thread searching why I have suck a lean on my driver side after installing new UCAs and coilovers. I didn’t have this lean with my stock TRd springs and Bilstien 5100’s. It’s almost a Full inch lower on my driver side and the coilover looks like it’s at a bigger angle on driver side vs passenger side:

You need to adjust or add a shim. It’s the Tundra lean. Stock springs adjust for it.

 

I didn't know the first gen had a lean? I guess I never looked into it bc I have the latest gen 2 before the new release of gen 3 next year.

 

Yes. It goes between the shock top hat and the bracket on the frame that the top hat bolts bolt to. Impossible to install a shin w/out removing the coil overs. It’s not as hard as you’d think it is though.

 

You can adjust the coilover to compensate for the lean. As for the angle of the shock look at the lower bolts and make sure the spacer used are placed the same way on both sides.

 

Reading this as I couldn't sleep and my 2018 with King 2.5 w/ adjusters has settled to about an inch lower on the drivers side. I knew it settled as it was rubbing a little when going in reverse and turning. Guess it's time for me to adjust it up. Probably just going to pull the shock and put spring compressors on or I might give it a try with it still installed and at full droop. It'll be a bit as I have my CJ7 in the garage doing a frame off, so I currently don't have any room!

 

Are you on 600lb springs with your kings? how is the ride with 14/9 preload adjusted on them? Im about to install my kings this week.

 

Getting a 1/4 inch lean running Kings at 10/8, close enough for me.

 

I'd be happy with that. I believe mine was around that when first installed. I never adjusted the drivers so I'm still at 8/8. I'll probably go to 10 and see where I'm at after a few months. I don't really drive the truck anymore, so it might take a while before I see it settle again.

 

I’ve done it but not a big fan of giving one side that much more preload than the other. 1/4”, maaaaybe 1/2” correction using preload but any more than that you can change the ride sensation. YMMV.
