Thinking Of Purchasing A Tundra, From A Tacoma

Hey guys/girls, thinking of purchasing a Tundra Platinum Crewmax, I’ve always been in love with them. The reason I’m thinking of going to a Tundra is my two boys are getting bigger and bigger every day, almost 8 and 2 years old. The Tacoma is starting to feel a little cramped with the 4 of us...lol!

Have any of you guys go from a Tacoma to a Tundra? Any regrets? Pros, cons?? I’m afraid of getting rid of the Tacoma lol. I’m trying to take advantage of the resale value of the Tacoma as well. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I made the change just recently also from a 2nd Gen. We found out our first kid is on the way and the Tundra just seemed more comfortable. I hated the Tacoma seats, it was the only thing I disliked about the vehicle but it was enough for me to want something more adjustable and that put me into a normal sitting position rather than your legs being stretched out. The wife loves the leg room as well.

I think it will be a little more difficult to get into being its a little taller but I don't think it will affect me or my wife all too much. One thing is for sure I missed having a v8. It drinks a lot, but it is nice to have some power. I want to eventually pull a camper when the kiddo is old enough as well and I was finding that the Tacoma was just going to be hard pressed for power if I ever left flat Houston.

I still have my 2010 stock SR5 Taco as my daily, but back seats back for stuff and my 2015 Tundra is my off-roading rig. Love the V8 and the room in the CrewMax.

I went from a 2017 Tacoma to a 2019 Tundra. I took a hit on the trade in but have zero regrets. The reason I did it is because of extra space for my family as the Tacoma was too small

You will have plenty of room in a Tundra and down the road you will not regret buying it.

 

Once you go Tundra, there is no going back to a Tacoma.

 

I made the change last march I don't regret it one bit.. Much more room, power, and overall quality seems as good as the Taco. Only negative is fuel mileage but a V8 and good gas mileage will never happen.

 

I just switched from a 2017 taco dclb to a 2016 crewmax. I would say the feel overall is a better build. I have twin infants and the room size in the cab is what made me make the switch. The only con to me is the fuel mileage compared between the two.

But you cant go wrong with the upgrade if you're wanting something bigger. There's tons of us that did it. Plenty more will follow.

 

Went the route of....
97 single cab Tacoma while single,
01 ext cab Tacoma with child #1 but was too small,
01 ext cab Tundra still cramped with child in car seat,
10 ext cab Tundra Rock Warrior with two kids and was a bit cramped, and
18 crew cab Tundra Platinum which fits my family of 4 perfectly.

Make the switch, you will love it!

 

And honestly the Tacoma doesn't really get good mileage anyway, so the difference is negligible.

 

This is awesome to hear! Let’s be honest, have 33” E-Rates tires, 3” lift and a 1” body lift...is my gas mileage really all that great as it is?? lol!

How “bad” is the gas mileage?

Winter driving in Ohio and city/highway mix I get around 14. Easy driving nothing tooo crazy. Havent had it long enough to see how it is in the summer and/or all highway trip. Probably around 17. Just like the Tacoma, add on's and going over 75 kills MPG

 

Highway miles empty bed.

Packed full 1200lbs+

It all depends on how you drive it. My worst is 11, so far without towing.

 

Love the taco, but you will love a tundra!

 

I had two Toyota pickups (88/94) , 1 gen 1 Tacoma, and 4 Gen 2 Tacomas. All were absolutely great trucks with no major issues. I am just sorry I waited so long to drive a Tundra as I would have had one much sooner.

 

That seems amazing, considering lol! I’m guessing my Tacoma’s more 12-14 on a good day. Is your truck stock?

 

3/1 lift, 295.70.18, 18x9 -12 offset. 275.65.18 was getting a better mileage. 255.70.18, I don't remember. I upgraded wheels and tires at 200 miles.

 

Have a 2019 Taco Pro on 33's and it gets 15-17 mpg depending on how heavy the foot is seen as bad as 11 on super windy days, but the room is much less, just leased a 20 voodo blue crewmax. My wife is taking over the Taco as we traded her 4-runner in on a supra

Just did it and will never go back. Had a 2016 Tacoma Double cab and loved it for the most part but moved to a 2020 Tundra Pro. Night and day difference and I avg 16/17 mpg and got 18/19 with Tacoma!

 

Went from a 2012 Tacoma to a 2019 Tundra

I regretted it till i went in for service and sat in a Tacoma again

 

That’s what I wanted to hear, if I don’t do it in the next 6 months it will be in 1 year.

 

I had a 2008 Tacoma and traded it towards 2019 Tundra DC. The room and ride are awesome and the mpg are lower, but to me its worth it. I would do it again in a heartbeat.If you do some online pricing you can do very good. My truck listed at 41,723 paid 32,847.

 

I tried a Tacoma a few years ago. Hated every minute of it outside of playing in the mud. Moving to a tundra you’ll get twice the truck and the same MPG’s.

As a toy the Tacoma is great. Where I couldn’t live with it was the highway driving and lack of power. I’ve driven Diesels my whole life with a couple 1/2 tons here and there. I also drive a freight truck for a living so I’m very uncomfortable in small vehicles. My .02

 

I have a 2012 Tacoma and would regret giving it up. It does seem so small now after driving the Tundra, but small is nice in tight spots and underground parking garages. Wife, kid, and dog prefer the space of the Tundra.

The Tacoma is the retired tow vehicle. No more screaming of the supercharger pulling the trailer up hills.
