Hi all, I just wanted to get some advice, I have a 2019 Tacoma TRD pro and I am debating going to a Tundra due to me and my wife having a 3rd child and I’m finding the Tacoma challenging as far as space for all three children, I just wanted to ask how reliable everyone’s tundra has been and if I should wait for the redesign of the tundra or just give in for a 2019 or 2020 model

TRD Air Filters, Front door windows tinted to match the rears. Wheel locks, Talons Garage cat shield, Tyger Automotive soft tonneau cover, WeatherTech floor mats with Tuff Skinz Custom Emblem kit, Toyota OEM Emblem Black Out kit. AVS vent covers on all four doors, Red Tundra letters on front bumper & TRD highlighted in Red on front grille. Tailgate Tundra Letters in Black.
    Welcome,

Currently this my 3rd Tundra Double Cab and I have two grade school kids which is roomy enough for them plus I can still have room to haul around my quad in the 6.5 bed.

    Definitely go with the Tundra.

Do it! I went from 2017 Tacoma to my 2019 Tundra for space for the family as well. Best decision even though I took a hit on the trade in!

The tundra is rock solid. I personally bought a 2019 while i could still get the 5.7 instead of being a guinea pig with the new drivetrain like i did with the 2016 tacoma.

I just had twins and there was no way to fit two car seats in my 2013 Tacoma, got a tundra crewmax and now there is so much room for activities

I made the transition from tacoma to tundra. Love the power increase, and mpg's are too far off between my lifted tacoma. Consider even getting the double cab version, as the back seat is significantly larger than the double cab tacoma (you will also gain underseat storage that the crewmax lacks).

Love my crewmax! I have two kids and they have lot of room and plenty of space for stuff on trips! My dad has a 2019 4 door taco and the interior size difference is a lot. You will not regret the Tundra with kids. If you need more bed space then get a bed extender like I have and your good. It is a little tight getting into the garage ( I fold one mirror in), but guess it is a good excuse to build a bigger garage!

My third child is the reason I upgraded from my 2005 taco. I still miss it, but the crew max is a must if a family of 5 is regularly in the truck.

Welcome from San Diego. I just made the jump from a 2016 taco to a 2020 double cab tundra and couldn't be more happy...like extremely happy! Personally I wanted to get the 5.7L V8 and its drivetrain while it was still around because it's been proven to be solid. The only downside I see is the gas mileage but I didn't buy it for that so it's all been smiles per gallon.

Congrats on the new addition to your family and good luck with your new purchase.

Hi, I went from a 2019 4runner to a 2019 Tundra, never looked back and I loved the 4Runner. The tundra is a different animal, more power, more room, just better in every way. DO IT!

Get a mini van for a few years and then come back to the 2030 Tundra redesign.

Best deals will be when the new models come out. I would go for a 2020 late this year or a 2019 if you can find one. I went to the Tundra after owning 2 Tacomas and a Sporttrac. I picked up a boat 300 miles away and realized that the Tacoma just did not have the range I wanted. Tacoma had no problems pulling a 5000 lb boat but i had to get gas 3 times. MPGs towing are same. I really like the extra room and power. I rarely have more than one passenger but roll down rear window sealed the CM for me.

If you're only concern is reliability then you should never wait for a brand new model. You're actually in luck as the latest Tundra is a 14 year old design. Tried and true.

Had my taco just how I wanted it. Had my daughter she sat in the middle. But when we had my son I put her behind me. My knees were on the dash I could feel her kicking my chair already so out with the old in with the new. Loved that truck tho it sold in 3 hours. But man the room the power and this forum have been a lot of fun and love working on the new one. You will not be disappointed I don’t think I could ever go back now.

I'm in the same boat.....or I guess I should say in the same Tacoma....Just listed my 2018 Tacoma TRD Off-Road. I'm sure mine would sell within a day in the lower 48 but being in Alaska, everything here is slower. As soon as it sells, I'll be looking for a Double Cab.

Also moved from an 18 taco to 19 tundra. Didn't like how cramped the taco was with 2 car seats. Had equity in the truck and made the switch to a crewmax. Love the extra room and power. Dont really mind the mpg loss considering the tank is so big. If you can tolerate the mpg I'd say go for it

How was it going from a LB Taco to a SB Tundra (although the bed is technically bigger). As roomy as the CrewMax backseat is, I'm 6' tall and love the thought of being able to sleep in a Double Cab bed when I'm camping, hunting, fishing etc.

I don’t know about sleeping in the bed but I guess you can leave the tailgate down and be fine at 6’ tall. For cargo needs I have a bed extender if 5’5” is too small.

Hit and miss I can’t tell u how many times I’ve yelled with something almost fits and I say. This would have fit in my taco :rofl:but I’ve slept in both it’s good. The cab room for long trips to the mountains are worth it. Everyone has room it feels bigger and safer I’m so happy with my tundra. Trust me I want slower I hate it here to many People if it were up to me I would live in the mountains full time. I’ve done a ton in the bed of this tho. Just the long stuff like wood materials my sliders ect had to go over the top:mad: but it’s such an improvement u will be happy

When possible, I prefer my tailgate up in bear country.

haha! I guess I would too if I had bears around. Though I would probably have a cap on there as well as weld a cage in the bed to bear proof it! Oh and a big a$$ gun.....
