I want to visit Death Valley but want to avoid salt for obvious reasons. How much of The Valley is covered in salt and what can done to avoid damage? How often you guys visit here and have you had any issues or concerns?
Thanks. Truck is 05 Tundra 2WD.

I’ve been there a few times and to my knowledge there is only one main road that goes to a salt flat “Devils Golf Course”. But I went there too. Just power washed when I got back to Town. It is beautiful you should definitely go!

Route 190 through Panamint Valley and when you get to stovepipe passes through what looks like dry lake bed. I noticed more south are very white patches of dirt that I assume are actual salt.

Contacted the National Park Service. Said there is low risk of salt on any major roads and that park rangers who live there year round have no rust issues. Salt flats are in white

The only pain is if you run into anything like soda lake in Mojave when it's muddy. Pain to clean, but well worth a trip to Death Valley and you should also check out Mojave.

I took mine to Bonneville salt flats which is way worse. Like others said just pressure wash and you will be fine.

I don't have much issues with the salt. The real issue is with the mud. Salt washes off alright, but that salt mud out there is tough to get off. Cool place though. I frequently wander the deserts just east of Bonneville looking for cool spots and what not.

One concern I have is that routes going to The Valley drive Searles Lake or Owens lake. They are dry salt flats and The highway drives right past them, wind and mine traffic could be leaving salt on these roads.

can't be as bad as driving on the beach, even that isn't bad, never got rust from that on south padre island -drove many different vehicles right up to the water, its the vehicles that Live there year round that w/b rust buckets, eventually....

I think you're slightly overthinking this. Go enjoy it and have fun. Wash it off really good when you're done.

Anyone who doesn't live in a southern state deals with salt from keeping winter roads clear 3-6 months of the year. I think you'll be fine with just one visit to a salty area.

You are overthinking this....these frames don't rust from a days exposure to DRY salt. They rust from long-term exposure to road salt mixed with water that gets into every nook and cranny of the undercarriage. Go to Death Valley and HAVE FUN! Drive on the salt lake beds if it's permissible and don't think twice about it. When you get home, to assuage your fears, go to a pressure wash and wash the dry salt off your undercarriage.

I know. It’s frustrating because Toyota still hasn’t fixed the frame issues on Tacos up to 2017 MY. The truck had some rust and paint chips on the driveshaft right off the dealer lot.
