New to me 2000 SR5 Access Cab, I have a few questions.

I finally picked up a Tundra, I have been looking for a little bit and found exactly what I wanted. I just purchased a 2000 White SR5 Access Cab with 130k on the clock. I had been doing a little research and knew of the frame issues. I found one what appears to be a beautiful frame, pretty much no rust whatsoever. I also specifically wanted a 2000, I know there are some nice upgrades over the next few years. However, I can register it as “historic” in my state. No inspection, no emissions and significantly cheaper registration and insurance.

I actually registered the vehicle on Toyota website before I bought it and reviewed the history. Timing Belt was done right around 100k and it said frame rust was remediated. Based on how clean it is I think it was replaced but I can’t be certain.

A few questions for you guys.
The car has electronic locks but no keyless entry. It sounds like it can be installed fairly easy. Does anyone have part numbers or experience doing it.?

Although the timing belt was done at 100k, it was done several years ago and the water pump is not documented. Is that an issue or do you think I’m good to go?

Finally the frame looks great but can’t say the same about the suspension. The control arms look fairly rusty and the ball joints (apparently these are a problem too) maybe someone can share their thoughts (pics included) I sprayed a lot of fluid film on everything as well.

In the Service History and if they entered all the service, there should be an entry dealing with replacing the frame or one saying CRC which possibly relates to remediated.
As far as timing belt replacement, if other items were changed....WP, pulleys, tensioners, etc..it should show on timing belt entry. Might have to select "View Details" next to the timing belt entry to see more, unless you already have. BTW, nice looking truck for that year and it's barely broke in mileage wise.

 

Yeah it appears they did remediation when I look more into the details. As far as the timing belt goes, it sounds like it was just the timing belt and serpentine (not sure why they didn’t did water pump, tensioner etc)

 

Just curious, the tires appear dry, the floor appears to not show wet tire tracks from coming into garage....what does the fluid appear to be in shock/strut pic and cv joint pic, etc....

Also, someone may come along and comment about dark brake fluid

 

I sprayed fluid film over the suspension pieces and frame. I usually do that on my vehicles especially if I drive them in the winter. Yeah I noticed the brake fluid reservoir being very dark. That is on my list, do you guys typically do a gravity bleed or a traditional one? I thought about grabbing a turkey blaster and suck out the old stuff and pour new stuff in to help speed up the process.

 

Just noticed this....are you saying you know it did not come with the RS3000 factory installed or the seller did not give you remotes and did not mention it has keyless entry ?

You may have already noticed when signed onto Toyota that one of the selections gives you the Vehicle Specs and in that it will mention if it has factory "Anti-Theft Sys w/Remote Keyless Entry"

 

Seller never mentioned it, I don’t think it was optioned. I thought it wasn’t too hard to install after the fact or am I mistaken?

 

I'll let others offer difficulty/price for install but what I mentioned above was, if your not sure and don't want to assume wrongly,look back at Toyota site, the Vehicle Specs pdf download will show if it already has one. Don't have a 2000 to tell you where to look under dash but others that come along might be able to chime in.
