Official Gas Mileage Thread

Why have I never thought to do it that way!? And I calculate my pay check every week and account for taxes and insurance deductions and I still always did it the long way. I've seen the light. You've shown me. Thank you.

No he's right. I always take my mileage and multiply by 1.08. That's adding 8% for my tires. So if my trip meter shows 300 miles I actually went 324.

I do this exact same thing. Odo - 100 miles, mile markers = 108 miles. Mileage x 1.08 = actual miles.

 

Just multiply your gross salary by (1 - 0.17)=.83 and you'll get your after tax and deduction net pay.

 

Why didn't I think of that? Lol I swear I can do some complex equations and then trip up on the simplest things sometimes.

 

it's different for subtraction because a smaller percentage of a larger number can equal a larger percentage of a smaller number.

eg: 16x125%=20, 20x80%=16 or 16x1.25=20, 20x.8=16

 

Dude don't worry. I'm in calculus II but still don't fully understand all the percentage things. I'm getting schooled too.

I had to make a few extra short trips (pharmacy runs for sick wife), so my economy fell off a little bit from the previous tank.

 

You have to do your own math. I always fill up and get a receipt. I write the current odometer reading on the receipt so I have date, gallons and odometer for each fill up. After 5 or 10 receipts I enter the info into an excel spreadsheet and I can get mpg by fill up, for the month, year to date or whatever.
My 06 double cab 4wd is new to me but So far I’m getting 15.5 mpg.

 

Just filled up with pure gasoline again. Truck still seems to run better, hold cruise better, and downshift less with the ethanol free fuel. Paid $2.73/gallon, which is exactly what ethanol premium was. My average was about 14.75mpg(compared to 13.5-14 with ethanol gas) with my tires and such I'll say my dream mpg would be around 16.5 so I'm not at all upset with 14.75. maybe I could have hit 16 with lower gears.

 

13MPG this fill up.

Some long range city driving mixed with mostly short trips. No idle. Grandma Style Driving Technique.

 

So, fully stock, 4wd and V8 Access Cab, 18mpg last 3 tanks, mostly highway. No idea how, but I'm getting almost 20mpg on the highway, which is definitely better than my V6 Tacoma ever was, though that was lifted good.

 

I got average 13.8 mpg (calculated) for my long trip 2,700 miles. It was Winter time (~35 F) and I drove mostly 75 plus mph. Now driving around 30% city and 70% highway with light pedal, I got average 16 mpg. My truck is 4X4.

This winter I've been averaging around 14.5 with my normal mix of city and highway miles. Not bad for having skids, camper shell and bigger tires.

 

Gassed up the Tundra this morning.
268.5 miles, 16.469 gallons of 87 = 16.3mpg. I was a little heavier on the gas getting out of work, but did a little more local, town cruising and didn't rev it past 1800 on those occasions.
We'll see if sorting out the rear brakes has any effect on economy over the next ~250-300 miles. (I don't expect it to. I only adjusted them to the point of a barely audible drag.) Although there is snow in the forecast...and that never bodes well for fuel economy.

It's tough. I am not a patient person by nature. I am even less so when behind the wheel. But I have a project car that I'm trying like hell to get on the road this year and that means being frugal with my expenses. Gas is my primary expense after bills, so I'm constantly aware that the lower my foot, the lower my spending money.
The flipside is that once the project car is roadworthy, the Tundra will see less commuting miles (spring-fall) and the project car will see all the full-throttle shenanigans. But 3.0L H6 will still use less fuel than a 4.7L V8.

Made a medium highway trip on a tank today and and averaged 17 mpg.

This is my last post in this thread as the above numbers are pretty average plus/minus 1 mpg.

Shit mine went up and lines are longer than ever since old elbow bumper Inslee is damn near shutting down Washington state.

 

Personally….I would happily pay double if this corona bitch would take a hike....but that's just me.
