Lontime owner of many toyotas and still scratching my head. I'm old school if I pay big money I expect stuff in return. 1st item stock tires. Minimum e rated 33s not passenger set at low 30s. 2nd if you put black LEDs in the front why dont you follow through with the taillights and 3rd brake light? I understand that after market business would take a hit but it's a little change in our pockets. 3rd one ton or something HD. What's the story? People want big 5th wheels too ;) at present I have a black 2019 double cab Trd tundra love the truck it's my second one. But again they're not cheap. Think we all need more for our dollar. Now I'm done talking.

Pretty much. I get what OP is saying...but toyota doesnt care. If they did they would have entered other trucks into the market by now. I am eagerly waiting for the next gen. Lots of rumors of more payload and towing capabilities. We shall see.

Yes I hear the same of a tundra diesel dual. They work at a snail's pace. I scratch my head.

I am one that believes Toyota can make both reliable and up-to-date vehicles that respond to the needs of the buyers. However, I'm not sure there is a market for a diesel or a one ton. Just look at the Titan HD as an example of market forces (yes it was a disaster in many areas - the looks and the reliability) that clearly rejected the HD version and lost Nissan a lot of money.

Mmmmm I know what you're saying. Seems like Ford dodge and Chevy have heard that. In my opinion any automaker that brings out a truck line needs a HD truck.

Another gum chewer. Trd offroad comes through with the towing package. P rated tires. Rear end sag. Then we have to add on air bags. Change out timberines. What's up?

I think Toyota will address something of this in the next generation. It’ll be reflected in better reviews and a steeper MSRP. The Tundra is a relatively cheap truck option for option compared with GM/Ram/Ford and as they improve the Tundra the prices will reflect that.

Given the number of Tundras sold vs 1500s/150s from the big 3 and the brand loyalty in the truck world, I can see why Toyota doesn't think a Tundra HD would make money.

As far as LEDs, living in a winter climate I actually prefer the old school lights that get hot and stay clear when I'm driving in a snow storm.

You get reliability, and a rather strong resale value in return for what you pay. The 'stuff' you mention is not typically desired by the vast majority of Toyota buyers, no problem because the aftermarket is finally there to help you set your truck up the way you want. Those of us that were early adopters of the T100 and 1st gen Tundra had little if any aftermarket support, mod life is much better / easier in a 2nd gen Tundra.

I love my 2015 limited just way it is. My domestic trucks had issues and now that I’m back in a Toyota life is good again. Reliability and resale is what I wanted and just what I got. I just added carplay and will add a leveling kit along with wheels and tires this fall. Can’t wait to see the new gen once it’s released.

Point well taken. But in my opion common sense options should be there. Not provided from after market. It's about dollars and cents from the automaker. P rated tires verse rated tires. Gas mileage etc.

Ford (and maybe Dodge and Chevy/GMC) is/are heavy into trucks, little into cars. Toyota on the other hand is heavy into cars, little into trucks. Toyota does exactly what I want in the Tundra (almost endless reliable life, plenty of power and as modern as I need). If I needed HD, there are the other three makers to choose from.

Nice I've owned toyota all my life. Love the vehicles. This is about common sense things. Again if a automaker puts out a truck line they should have a hd truck. This is not a bad mouth session. Just opinions. Yes reliability is number one. Yes resale. We all know that. Paul

Love my Tundra completely! The resale, the reliability and the looks are the reason I purchased it. I definitely respect and see your point however @Nothing but Black. I do not want all the bells and whistles because they will eventually fail over time. As far as tires are concerned why not negotiate having the tires you wanted before purchasing the truck. I negotiated several items when I purchased my truck such as an OEM tonneau cover, spray in bed liner, lifetime engine and power train warranty, lifetime oil changes for free just to name a few.

The Tundra is and has been an afterthought. It’s a small little piece of their overall portfolio. They have all that tech and more. They just don’t utilize it in the Tundra. The tires are due to the fact their MPG rating is trash and adding bigger and heavier tires will make it that much worse. Plus, I believe they have been trying to keep the price of the Tundra down by cutting out certain upgrades.
As for the 3/4 1 ton market. IMO, forget it. That area is owned by the big 3 and I would venture to guess Toyota doesn’t see it as a viable market to try and make money.

At the risk of sounding old - I think the EPA is responsible for a lot of the uncertainty in the HD truck market. They've effectively killed the reliability of diesel engines and MPG requirements have forced manufacturers to make sacrifices like going to aluminum bodies and running P-rated tires to save an MPG. This new set of problems in HD trucks is costing manufacturers like Ford billions in lost profits. Anyone see their Q4 financial statement and stock value?

Based on the amount of research and money being thrown at companies like Rivian and Tesla, I have a feeling that 8-10 years from now electric trucks will be taking over the market currently occupied by the small turbo gas and diesel engines. This could end up being the biggest transition in the light truck industry in many, many decades. If Toyota thinks things are drastically changing, it makes sense for them hold off any real engineering decisions until the technology is proven. They've made a clear and conscious decision that they will not currently participate in, let alone be an innovator of, the consumer HD truck market.

As for the non-LED taillights, if that's what we have to complain about for the Tundra they're doing a lot of things right.

Toyota loves Rav4s and Camrys. It makes trucks for the people who like reliability and don't want to deal with the Big 3, and Toyota is fine with that.

I hope Toyota does NOT decide to go head to head / tit for tat with the big 3 in the 3/4 / 1 ton market, I prefer they stick to producing reliable trucks that are built to last. I also wish they would get out of the electronic tech whistles & bells side of this, it would be best if Toyota reverted back to a simpler truck with LESS electronics and wizardry.

Yes again totally love my Toyotas. As for the small things add up. No one can argue that Toyota has a bullet proof reputation. In my opion the small things do matter. Not buying after market. My black 19 has black LEDs in the front it should have been carried to the back. Common sense. Again if one tows and the tundra has a towing package then there should be e rated tires on the truck. All small things. The bottom line to my conversation is Toyota needs to address issues. Hopefully in the near future they'll upgrade the truck. Everyone here loves their truck.
