Tow mirrors for 2020 sr5 Tundra

Does any one know, what part# I need to get heating towing mirrors, for my 2020 sr5 trundra?

The dealer said the part he has won't give me heated mirrors.

 

Tundra OEM ones should be heated, 99% sure mine were.

I have the GM style ones and for visibility they are light years ahead of either Toyota option.

Are they stable at highway speeds?

 

Mine are very stable at highway speeds (120 km/h), no issue with vibration or extra noise with window closed. I put them on in September so I haven't got much highway driving with the window open other than a few seconds, but did not notice any extra noise in that time.

I'm not in the market for tow mirrors right now. I don't have anything to tow! Just keeping an eye out on what's available for if and when I need or want tow mirrors.

 

Thanks all, I have the information I need now. First tow mirrors, 2nd air bags, and then equalizer hitch. I have a 2015 Jayco 24' travel trailer I plan to tow. Trailer loaded wt. is 6500 lbs.

 

Mine are... I figured if any would be resistant to vibration it would be the OEM ones... and on my truck I was right.

 

The only thing I dislike about my tow mirrors is that the passenger side is the same magnification as the driver's side mirror.

 

No vibration at highway speed, 2 huge viewing windows, and BSM works, albeit its a little hard to see during the day.

 

OEM tow mirrors also have turn signals built in...

 

Those GM style tow mirrors sure are nice, but I have not been able to find anything compatible with a 2020 yet. So I guess I will stick with OEM.

 

If it fits the 2019 it will fit the 2020. I have the Toyota clone tow mirrors that were listed for the 2017 and they are a direct replacement on my 2020. The connector is the same and I have the bonus of getting the marker and turn signal. The only issue with the GM style is that you have do some wiring to get the full function of the mirrors.

 

What does the additional wiring entail? Considering purchasing a set this spring. Just wondering if the additional wiring is enough trouble to keep me looking at the Toyota mirrors. Also, is the passenger side mirror the same magnification as the drivers like the Toyota ones are? That is actually what has me looking at anything other than the Toyota ones?

 

I have the Toyota clone mirrors so I can't comment on what additional wiring is needed. I know from posts on this forum that the puddle light has to be wired in. The Toyota tow mirrors I have dont have magnification on the passenger mirror. I picked them over the GM because I wanted something that looks like OE and was a direct replacement that gave me marker and turn signal. I didn't do the real McCoy because of cost. I only paid $135 for the pair and very happy with them.

 

Extra wiring I had to do was just for the back facing LED - just tapped into the cargo light circuit. For newer ones with the BSM I've read a couple needed to move a wire in the harness depending on year - this was just a simple de-pin and move to the correct slot.

Passenger mirrors have the same magnification as OEM tow mirrors - both top mirrors are flat which is different than the stock OEM mirrors. Those have a slight convex to them, hence why they have the sticker about objects being closer. Both tow mirrors do not have the convex main mirror since they have the bottom, extremely convex mirror. That lower mirror is where the GM ones are 1000x better, the upper ones are close enough but the lower one on the OEM tow mirrors is pretty much useless when compared to GM or Ford tow mirrors.

out of curiosity what is you're motivation to do it?

With my experience I'd go one of three routes - stay OEM regular mirrors as they're quite good for driving and small trailers. Or add a convex spot mirror (they're quite cheap, I got some for ~$15) if you want to see the rear tire while parking. Then if you want it for towing or used to HD truck mirror then go with aftermarket mirrors like the GM style.

The Toyota towing mirrors are almost annoying at how they do almost nothing good. Before I bought the GM style mirrors I was ready to put the stock OEM regular mirrors on over the OEM Towing mirrors. I'm so used to F350 towing mirrors than the Toyota tow mirrors just didn't cut it.

 

After having tow mirrors on my last 2 tundras, I loved them for towing but when I wasn't towing they were worse than the stock mirrors. On my new tundra I decided to try something different. I just got these in today, they snap on great and are an easy on off. I haven't driven with them on yet but I will be towing on thursday so I'll update you guys then. I have theses as well and they get the job done. Vibrate a little but still easy enough to see out of to use for their purpose of checking before changing lanes when towing. The passenger side is not convex and is the same magnification which annoys me but still serves its purpose of being able to see when reversing. I’ll probably stick a convex mirror on that side and some pipe insulation under both mirrors to help hold steady but other than that, I’m happy enough with them to not go for any style permanent tow mirror on my truck

 

How much further out do the tow mirrors stick than stock mirrors? I want to add them to my truck but have concern of them fitting thru the garage opening.

I was also considering these as well but went with the Toyota knock offs. I paid $135 so it really wasn't that much more to have a dedicated tow mirrors.

Not as good as OEM mirrors, but worth it for the $$.
A week before a 5,000 mile cross country camping trip, I realized I needed some extended tow mirrors for my 2016 Toyota Tundra. My truck has Blind Side Monitoring mirrors, and the factory TOYOTA tow mirrors don't support that feature... And at $400 for them, I wasn't willing to pay that, and lose an important safety feature.

My next option was extending the existing mirrors. I liked the clean OEM look of this kit, and they had good reviews, so I ordered up a set. They mount in a breeze, and look great.

I waited til AFTER my trip to write this review so I could give a fair review. They came well packaged, had a nice storage bag, and were built pretty well. These mounted in a few seconds, and stood solid for 5,000+ miles. The extensions didn't affect my BSM sensors, which I was concerned about. The mirrors add a little more view behind the drivers side corner of the trailer that you couldn't see from the existing mirror. While it gives you that extra view, the mirrors buzz pretty good compared to the stock mirror next to it. (See video) You can see a car back there, but it's hard to make out the "brand" or perhaps "law enforcement affiliation" of the vehicle behind you.

The passenger side mirror isn't quite as good. It too vibrates, but the mirror makes things "appear closer..." so from across the cab, you can't see very much from it at all. You get a very hyper-focused area... So knowing the spot it's aimed at is very important.

While I'm glad I had them, and used the drivers side mirror extension constantly, the passenger mirror was kind of useless. They are definitely worth the money, and recommend them over having nothing. For the occasional camping trip, these will work fine. If you are constantly pulling trailers, you may want to invest in the OEM Toyota tow mirrors.

I will be using them for the next couple trips, but will probably swap to full tow mirrors eventually.

If you need these as a quick fix, or occasional trip, they are money well spent. If you tow regularly, there is no substitute for the real deal.

 

Since I didn't do measurements before taking the stock one's off these a estimates - I'd say the GM ones are 4-6 inches wider on each side, the Toyota tow mirrors are about 3-4 inches wider on each side.

I am super tight to get through my garage door with both out, with 1 folded in it goes in no problem - I have a single car garage door so it's about as small as you can get

 

Thanks for the help. My SR5 doesn't have bsm so I most likely won't have to rewire anything. I have a set of clip on tow mirrors and they work okay but I also used to tow with an F350 so I am a little spoiled.

 

do those 2 facing lights only come on when the door is open? I heard on YouTube some hook up to reverse lights. I just got mine and trying to locate that damn reverse wire. Thx

 

I guess that extra extension on the tow mirrors is how Chevy provides that "Invisible Trailer" feature. I read that it combines the signals of the tow mirrors with the tail gate camera to provide a composite rear view without the trailer. It's an interesting option, but effectiveness may decline quickly with longer trailers.

 

Depends what wire you tap into. I tapped into the cargo light circuit. The easiest reverse light I know of is at the taillight - others may know a better spot to go to.

 

What are the GM style mirrors yall talking about. I have found these and like that they are white to go with the white Pro I have. Noticed I have a blind spot and would like something to be able to see my side ie items are closer they appear.
