What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Test drove with the DOT3.

Finalized the DOT5.1 install. Big difference in color which helped me know when to stop bleeding at each wheel. The Self Bleeders are very nice. Makes for an easy one person job. This fluid change makes the pedal a little firmer compared to fresh DOT3. I could feel a slight difference.

Removed the LSBP Valve Lever and cleaned it up, Rust Reformed it, and lubed all the parts. Smoov Operator now. Lowered the nuts.

Braking like a dream now. So smooth, even, and powerful with the new calipers. Pedal does travel a hair farther compared to before. Maybe because the hydraulics are working all pistons properly? Very confident feeling in braking compared to before.

Dismantled the old calipers. Confirmed 3 out of 4 pistons on each side are stuck. The circular system of the caliper was partially, or fully blocked, with cack.

So stoked in ‘Brake Nirvana’. Yeah! Less Dangerous. Yeah!

 

First time hauling with the Tuna. Total of 400 miles and she handled like a champ !

 

pictures like these make me wonder why our front wheels have so much aft caster.....

 

Believe it or not, that was at +2.6. For the alignment, I had them press more positive, currently at 3.0. Very slight rubbing with the 285/70r17 BFGs on the mudflap, but nothing more than noise.

 

gotcha. Also, those wheels are what I wanna run on my white 06. Just bought new tires last year so don't think it will be anytime soon but I hate the look of the current black 20" wheels that came on the truck when I bought it.

 

The last few days I have noticed that if I push the top part of my steering wheel forward and pull back I get this clicking noise. I can feel the click in the wheel but the wheel its self doesn't feel loose. Anyone have a similar experience?

 

Confirmed these are the bleeders for the 13WL and the LSBP Valve if anyone is interested. 2002 Tundra

 

Do they not also work with the WE's?

Dang. So the ones you just bought you already had to replace for your new calipers? Or had you only replaced the rear bleeders?

Due to my first time doing brake service, I was modular in my attack. Did the rear cylinder re-build and installed the rear self bleeders. I realized I needed new 13WL calipers after buying the bleeders for the 13 WE, thus returned those and bought propers. Examined the Prop Valve Bleeder and saw it looked the same size as the 13 WL.

I replaced all 5 bleeders with self bleeders. Lots of work for something little, but knocked it all out while doing major work.

Next time I go to bleed it will be a breeze and this was the reason I did it. I can bleed all 5 ports in about 45 minutes going by todays work. No hoses/pump$ to store/take up space and clean making messes everywhere.

Well. 6hrs later and it’s driveable. Camera is installed and wires ran. Interior back together like it was.

 

What's the finish on the front bumper assembly? Is that as it came, or paint, or... I've lost track, but like that finish for my Taco.

Yes its a hook to hang it up to the frame or spring. I really like this way because you can visually see if fluid is coming out, and the color. If you have the hose higher than the wheel/brake, air can't get back into the bleed screw.
This method, start from the farthest point from the master cylinder.
You can use this for hydraulic clutch too.

I couldn't get Denso in my City anywhere, so grabbed some inexpensive NGK's. Under $3 Canadian each. After work I'll look at whatever is going on with my rear drivers-side brake which is heating up and stinks to high heaven.

 

And to think, while I was at the dealer picking up some parts, some poor sucker in line next to me paid $185 to have his plugs changed in his 4.7 Sequoia. Made me cringe.
